Internet radios - general question
paulgul

Do all internet radios depend on the manufactures website for reception. I'm trying to make up my mind which model to get (Pure or Roberts) but it crossed my mind that which ever one I choose, supposing the manufacture went bust in a couple of years time would the internet side of the radio be useless or can they be re-programmed to get the content from another web site.

They all seem to use the 'reciva' network actually... you register your internet radio serial number to this site then you can connect and listen to the millions, well thousands of stations.

So providing Reciva don't go broke we should all be fine

Ok, thanks. I was going on the fact that Pure had "The Lounge" and I assumed their radios went through this site.

I don't know of any ''new'' wi-fi radio's now that use Reciva portal now,the Pure model does not use Reciva.

I have five wi-fi radio's around the house four use Reciva, and the other uses the Frontier-Silicon portal, but there are other portals in use,by other models.

Have had my radio's for three years,or more now,and I wish another model would use Reciva again.

I would say that the Frontier-Silicon portal was the most used in wi-fi radio today.
They are all, much the same, but I like Reciva because I am able to add my own podcast choice to my account, then to my radio, via its RSS/URL.

In the Frontier system there is a only a fixed choice of podcasts, within the system itself.
With both systems,I am able to add radio station streams, just to my own radio,if I know what the URL is.

This is handy for small stations that may not be on either system, out of the box.

It's the Logitech Squeezebox for me - works like a charm. Great sound too and i've purchased the battery pack and remote control. It has iPlayer catchup, preset buttons and connects to my Mac's iTunes library as well as all the internet radio you want. Love it!!

I recommend the Pure Sensia. Check for prices, there is a huge difference for with some sellers.
