Have just found this.

Changes to Mobile Internet fair use policies

T-Mobile is the only operator to give customers the Mobile Internet for a fixed-price. We never charge our customer's more than they expect for their Mobile Internet in the UK.

Therefore you'll never need to worry about how many emails you've sent, how long you've been on-line or the ‘data / GB’s’

Browsing means looking at websites and checking email, but not watching videos, downloading files or playing games. We’ve got a fair use policy but ours means that you'll always be able to browse the internet, it’s only when you go over the fair use amount that you won’t be able to download, stream and watch video clips.

So Whats Changing? - From 1st February 2011 we will be aligning our fair use policies so our mobile internet service will have fair use of 500MB.

What Does This Mean? - We’ll always let you email and browse the internet and you’ll never pay more than you agree to. We do have a fair use policy but ours is there to make sure we deliver the best service possible to all our customers. This means that you’ll always be able to browse the internet.

So remember our Mobile Broadband and internet on your phone service is best used for browsing which means looking at your favorite websites like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, BBC News and more, checking your email and looking for information, but not watching videos or downloading files.

If you want to download, stream and watch video clips, save that stuff for your home broadband.

"If you want to download, stream and watch video clips, save that stuff for your home broadband."

I love that. telling your customers how they should live their lives.

as far as i can tell a company with good customers service should provide their customers with the product that meets their needs. not tell their customers how to modify their needs around their product.

that having been said the FUP sounds pretty reasonable. But i really don't like it when the operators just change their T&C's in the middle of your contract.

Phew, that's a lucky escape if ever I saw one.

I very nearly switched to them.

Have you got a date / link for this?

The only reference I can find (with a quick search) to a 500MB FUP relates to PAYG only.

Announced today.

Very vague as if it is just the basic package or if they are doing away with all the bundles.

Seems a strange move as three have gone the other way with there 'All you can eat' data.

Reading it, they are saying you will chew through your allowance by downloading big files rather than saying you cannot download?

from July last year. On the phone now. They tell me that the new 500MB FUP is from 4pm to midnight and they are changing it as noone uses it. How stupid does that sound. Now contacting cancellations as they have changed the terms of the contract. Can they do that? When 02 changed the terms it was once the contract term ended....

got hung up on before i got through. Looking through my downloads for last 20days and its at 1.2GB, Looks like I will be hit by this. This is outragous, fine chage it for new customers but people under contract?

Sounds like you get downloads turned off at 500MB and you cannot get charged any excess.

The twice I went over the 1Gb allowance I had on T-Mobile, downloading was restricted from 4pm until midnight. Basically, I could still use websites, or download e-mails etc, but YouTube, my online radio player and Android Marketplace would no longer work within these hours.

So it's not quite the end of the world, you can still get online. Wouldn't be happy if they cut my allowance in half though.

I have just tried calling CS again. Was told this time we can browse as much as we want. Downloads are limited to 500mb. Total shambles.

All this "You'll still be able to browse the web" is a load of rubbish.

I've had it before where I exceeded the allowance and was told this wouldnt affect my browsing....rubbish....after 18:00 you just keep redirected to the page telling you you have exceeded your allowance. Click HERE to continue....when you click it just loops back to the same page.

This happens till midnight until the end of the calendar month.

Im annoyed because I only upgraded last month and was told I would now get a 3GB monthly allowance.

Andriod handsets are "Always On" so its gonna be hard to not breach 500MB.

as there sales dept are STILL touting 3GB limits its well out of order. A 83% cut in limits and not even 30 days notice. How legal can this be?

Some confusing and contradictory messages coming from T-Mobile. Different departments having different takes on what this means.

There was that recent ruling, by those wasters at the SAS, that 'unlimited' is allowed to mean anything they want it to.

So of course they are redefining it yet again.
