Black Spaghetti
Can anyone point me in the right direction on the following?, I've just bought a TV/DVD/VCR/Dolby5:1 set up. Now leaving the audio side alone for now, whats the best way to connect everything?, as I seem short of scart sockets.
TV...............2 Scarts DVD...........1 Scart VCR...........2 Scarts Sky Box.....2 Scarts Would the following work........... DVD>>>>VCR>>>>SKY>>>>TV Do Scarts work both ways, that is as well as taking the DVD signal through all the others, would i be able to get a Dolby 5:1 signal from the sat to DVD which is the Dolby decoder. It all looks like a platefull of Black Spaghetti to me. Or Are the Auto scart switching boxes any good. |

If your TV has 2 scarts, that's probably one RGB/composite and one s-video/composite. Your VCR should work chained through the SKY box, else use the composite scart (VCR picture composite only). For DVD and SKY you want RGB if possible, else s-video output, so probably you want both boxes going into the RGB scart on your telly, either chained together or via a switching box. Your proposed setup might work, but you're going to have to do a few tests to see what will chain together. The important thing is to get a fully-wired RGB scart signal out of SKY/DVD - the difference between RGB and crappy composite will be obvious.
As for the audio, scart will carry the stereo signal to your TV, but if you've got a 5.1 amp, you want a direct coax/optical connection from DVD to amp for 5.1, and L/R audio connections from the TV if possible (else all the individual bits of kit) to the amp for hearing SKY/videos in stereo/prologic. |

Thanks Monkeysoup, I've done it the way you suggest & it works fine, only negative, though I don't think the need will arise, is I won't be able to tape from the DVD, unless I use the RCA sockets. Thanks greatly, I consider my self a bit of a technophobe, but the thought of all the wires including all the audio & speaker wires sends a shudder down my back.
