Not bad at all. I watched it last night and liked it, but it wasn't very scary. Shame about Not Going Out as that was the best episode ever. Very funny stuff but hindered by a not well publicised lead in.

As for 10 O'Clock Live. It looks deader than disco.

Not surprised, Pro-left, satirical programmes alienate a large percentage of the audience.

Perhaps a more balanced team, rather than a bunch of 'Champagne Socialists' would be better?

I'm very annoyed with Big Brother because had the Shilpa Shetty final not gone up against Top Gear with the return of Richard Hammond, Top Gear would have cleared 10m on that night.

Broadcast says Marchlands had 6.2m (inc. HD) and 273k on +1. A good start for it, particularly as it's a non-crime drama, although I'm not surprised it did that well given the weak competition and it was well-promoted. As with most new ITV drama series, it's now a case of how much it drops next week. It seems to have been well received so I doubt it'll do a MSO/Identity/Fixer and drop into the 4's. Looking at the second-episode drops for recent pretty well received first episodes of new drama series, it seems to be in the 10-20% range so I expect next week it'll be around the 5.1-5.6m mark.

I think NGO did decently considering the low lead-in and at least it built on its lead-in which is difficult to do half-way through the hour. I don't think it'll ever breakout to become a 5/6m+ hit but it's worth recommissioning as it seems to have a loyal fanbase and it's a genre which can be really difficult to get right (as seen with the Reggie Perrin and The Old Guys ratings in the last year).

In 2 weeks time, there is a Liverpool match on five, so that will impact it.

It seems to be only dramas that are getting big +1 numbers for ITV1+1 doesn't it?

Does anyone have any breakdowns for Peep Show? As i can imagine it has quite a wide age range, but wondered how it did with younger people?

I think Armando Iannucci's Saturday/Friday Night Armistice did this so much better. They ripped the piss out of everybody and had crazy features like Hunt The Old Woman where an old woman would just turn up in the background of random TV shows. It got much better ratings than 10 O'Clock Live as well.

"Channel 5 is rebranding its digital channel Fiver as 5* (Five Star) and has acquired two Warner Bros comedies, including the Twitter-inspired show $#*! My Dad Says.

5* will launch on 7 March, supported by a new logo and branding to underline the fun-loving image of the channel. It is also running a competition for unsigned artists to write the soundtrack for its on-air promos.

The move will follow fresh branding and idents for C5 itself, which will roll out from 14 February.

C5 director of programmes Jeff Ford said: “In a competitive marketplace, you need strong brands that jump out of the EPG, and the rebranding of Fiver as 5*, combined with exciting new shows, provides us with a distinctive channel.”

To coincide with the rebrand, 5* has picked up the rights to Warner’s 18 x 30-minute sitcom $#*! My Dad Says, which stars William Shatner as a grumpy old man whose words of wisdom are recorded by his unemployed son via Twitter.

NGO was great, and deserved better than an Outnumbered repeat to help it fend off a big new ITV drama.

And, more importantly, it's good!

The BBC has proved that with good scheduling, it will get good ratings (5.2m official for ep1). Without good scheduling, it won't.

It is particularly frustrating that BBC1 had nothing better than news and a film repeat to offer after 12.5m watched CFWM debut on Christmas Night, so could easily have launched NGO there and introduced it to a much wider audience for the first time.


Armistice was brilliant, and so much better than TOCL.

Not that TOCL is particularly bad, but I do agree the constant anti-Govt, leftie Guardianista tone does grate. Then again, nothing with Mitchell and Brooker on it is ever going to be that bad.

Earlier in the thread, there was a chat about what ITV would broadcast on Saturday nights on either side of Britains Got Talent. What about Odd One in? Was it getting good figures?

Also, what happened to 3@three? Its such a silly name.

I think that bombed, 2-3m? There was another show launched at the same time, they both did terribly, but the were both awful in fairness.

Very worrying for Taggart, this one time hit that was enjoyed by all age groups seems to be mostly watched by the elderly with ratings only slightly higher than Neighbours on Channel 5. It's a shame as the stories have been good this time, but I think the fact that it's been on for so long and the audience is growing old with it and also it's against two massive hits on BBC One and Channel 4 doesn't help.
However, for really awful demographics, High Road in its last few years took some beating. Most of the English regions had cancelled it as only a few pensioners were watching it and STV research found the average age of the viewer to be 70.

What a stupid name! These changes just aren't needed. It's what I call new wife syndrome. They come in and want every trace of the previous wife removed from the house, even if it made the house look good.

This is what Desmond is doing. Five needs investment and the branding for the main channel is fine. Why change to Channel 5? The logo looks tacky as well. Give me strength!

Out of curiousity, anyone recall roughly what sort of ratings MTV's The Hills was getting during it peak?

Media Guardian reports comments from Mike Darcey (Sky Chief Operating Officer):

"Darcey also said that he was unaware of the overnight ratings for Sky Atlantic and the flagship Boardwalk Empire, which pulled in 438,000 viewers, claiming that overnight ratings figures are meaningless to the company and that "column inches" of coverage is more important right now................

He said that for one thing to get anything like "meaningful" numbers Sky waited a week to pick up seven-day viewing patterns from those who recorded the show on Sky+ or watched on the on-demand service Sky Anytime, neither of which are included by overnight viewing figures.

He added that for a pay-TV broadcaster, which is not as reliant on free-to-air broadcasters on audience numbers for selling advertising, it is "much, much more fundamental" to get subscribers."

Fantastic start for Marchlands. I know there was weak competition, but that's still a strong figure for a new drama on a Thursday and airing dramas on a Thursday might not have been a bad decision after all, as the BBC don't seem to be airing any here for a while at least. The ITVsoaps look pretty low from the raw figures, although tapecheck, HD and +1 will probably send Corrie to around 9m and Emmerdale to almost 8m.

Decent for NGO, considering it had a repeat as a lead in. Bad scheduling there imo.

Thursday seems to be Ch4's weak night atm and 10 O'Clock Live seems to be the weak link in Ch4's pretty strong schedule. Also a pretty bad night for Ch5 it seems, but that JLC figure is about 4 times higher than his chatshow.

And regarding 5*, wtf?! Renaming the channel for the 2nd time won't do any good, and I can't see the reasoning for this.

This reminds of the business when Virgin lost Sky1 a few years back. Negotiations were on, then off, then on,then off...and then Sky1 reappeared when most had given up on it. I can see Sky holding out with Atlantic though as it's currently a selling point to get people to subscribe to Sky.

Ouch. Thats pretty poor. I know it'll timeshift well and does good demos, but its overall numbers are left in the dust by the likes of Being Human - or other E4 shows like Misfits (not to mention The Inbetweeners).

It's an odd series, certainly...but it has a strange charm. Not really sure it deserve a second series though!
