The X Factor USA ad is very good and uses the same sort of music that they use in the UK version. FOX should and will promote it with Idol and Glee but I wonder if they are expecting Idol numbers for it due to the success of the show in the UK.

Terra Nova is the one I want to see but the project like Glee is very ambitious but has some great names behind it and the concept is very interesting. No UK broadcaster yet but I could see it on Sky1 or a terrestrial like Channel 4 or Five, I doubt BBC One or ITV1 will bid for it.

The Promise should do okay tonight as there only Wallander which is a repeat but like Any Human Heart, it's got weird lengths. They need to make their drama episodes either an hour long, 90 Minutes or two hours otherwise they'll lose viewers.

You're probably right because there's never a good time to go into a break - but personally as somebody who watches the F1 with his dad sometimes - commercial breaks are a good time to have a breather - there's no half-time in F1, viewers won't be watching every second of the action anyway.

Champions League going to the BBC would probably have been a very wise move for ITV in hindsight as the rights ARE expensive and it would mean the soaps could return to their original slots. I don't know whether you agree, but in my opinion the Champions League has lost its sparkle. The Group Stage is boring, English teams are now dominating and European forces are not what they once were. Perhaps it's blind nostalgia from my point of view, being a Man Utd fan.

But Champions League football at the moment is all too predictable, what with a very similar top 4 in England battling it out, and from a commercial point of view, the awful decision to move the final to Saturdays. Noone's interested in all-European ties - there's not that intrigue anymore. Obviously Spurs are in it this year and that makes it all interesting (the matches against Inter Milan were brilliant) but I remember when Norwich City were in the Champions League!

I don't claim to be much of a fan of F1 but I'm interested in broadcasting so that's where I got that information from. Surely ITV could've forseen the excitement of F1 as Lewis Hamilton was just getting into his stride as they ditched the rights?”

The problem the BBC has always had with the Champions League is the amount of on-screen logos for advertisers and the whole sponsorship business which comes with the package. Although they have rules which allow sponsors' names to be mentioned there would be far too much to cope with on CL.I believe they did look at it last time the contract came up but weren't able to arrive at a compromise.

The "compromise" would have been to pay extra for the rights vis-a-vis what a commercial operator would pay, essentially to compensate the sponsors for loss of exposure. Of course this is a laughable waste of public money but this was the confused BBC of the last few years that thought it was a commercial tv network without the ads

I don't think you understand the concept of public service broadcaster.

"commercial TV without the ads" !

Is DOI in trouble? The gimmicks don't seem to be working.

at the Wallender rpt. A lot of BBC viewers obviously just switched off at 9pm, as the DOI Results didn't do that well. Unless there were some big ratings for the smaller channels post 9pm.

Big surprise for me is The Promise - it got twice what I expected given the subject matter.

Interesting that Lark Rise has dropped since news that it was to be axed came out.

Looks they should have waited, perhaps announcing it the weekend of the final episode or something?

Those are strong overnights for Hawaii Five-0.

It lost a lot of viewers from episode 1 to 2 though.

I think that says as much about the 10PM on a Sunday night slot as it does about the show, although we'll know more next week.

The People's Supermarket tanked. What were C4 thinking starting a new series midway through an episode of DoI and opposite the formidable BBC opposition of Lark Rise and Top Gear? Pointless exercise. In the week that could have pulled in ~2m.

The Promise did well considering the subject matter and programme length, although it was marketed well and extensively so I'm not surprised.

Very poor for Wallander (R), bit of a shocker really having had such a strong night up to that point that BBC One could have recorded such a poor audience at 9pm. Dancing on Ice didn't seem to benefit that much though.

Channel 5 had an okay night. Nothing special. I don't know why they keep repeating factuals at 8pm, they should just stick to back-to-back movies on Sundays.

ITV1's schedule as stable as ever, and BBC1's pre 9pm shows offering a strong alternative. Wallander seemed to collapse. I thought that would be guaranteed at least 3m, possibly 4m. BBC2 seemed to capitalise the most.

Decent start for The Promise considering the slot, length & type of show it was. Not sure why on earth they are wasting new CDWM in that 7pm slot, when there's already enough of it on Mon-Sat in slots it performs much better in. They may as well air film repeats or repeats of shows recently aired on Ch4, because it just seems a waste.

On a side note I didn't think the Vegas theme added anything at all to DOI, but the Karen/Jason argument was easily the best moment since Todd Carty did a Frank Spencer Slightly awkward & they seem to have made the wrong decision with the judging panel, because it just doesn't look right with Karen sitting on the side.

True, the share of the audience went up so that's a good sign for it. I'm not saying it won't be a modest hit for Sky1, I just don't think it's going to be another 24, Lost, or even Bones.

Wallander wasn't listed as a repeat in some listings magazines and on the epg (at least when I looked) so perhaps some fans were disillusioned when they found out they'd seen it before.

This was actually a terrestrial premiere. Is the movie that bad that it went straight to Film4 instead of C4?

I'd like to know what it would have got on C4 instead of CDWM/People's Supermarket. I'm guessing it wouldn't have been far off how those shows rated.

That just makes it even more astonishing that it rated so badly!

Channels showing repeats at 9p.m. is very lazy scheduling, and I don't think it's acceptable, especially in winter.

I suppose the BBC would argue that BBC Two, Three and Four were all showing new programmes in that timeslot, so although the main channel was in repeat mode, there was a lot of fresh choice across the BBC network as a whole. (1 drama, 2x factual)

Countryfile is doing really well getting 6.6-6.8m every single week, very consistent. The Wallander rating is a million lower than I expected - it was a weird choice to repeat because the first-run episodes don't rate brilliantly anyway and as good as it is, I don't think it's the sort of show people would want to watch again. George Gently or New Tricks would've got 3.5m+ in that slot.

Series high for Top Gear which is good and it seems like some BBC1 viewers switched over to BBC2 at 9pm because I think that's a series high for 'Arctic' as well. Solid ratings for the ITV1 shows: DOI and Wild at Heart rated better than the last two weeks and DOI is in line with what the last two series rated on the same weekend. Results show could've done a bit better though given that BBC1 was at ~2.5m at the time.

Pretty good start for The Promise, I expect it'll fall next week similar to how Any Human Heart did but it's started well for a show about that subject matter. I agree with Dancc that C5 would be better off having a movie running early evening into the 9pm movie as the 8pm factual repeats aren't rating well.

Sky had some excellent ratings yesterday, particularly the football match. A lot of interest there obviously so I'm not surprised it got ~2.5m and if it timeshifts well, it could be their best ever rated EPL match. Got To Dance is growing which I suppose is to be expected as it nears its finale and a promising start for Hawaii-5O - I didn't expect it to pass the half a million mark.

The late swap of Terry Wogan's Ireland for South Riding left them with a spare week before the BAFTAs.

Ordinarily a repeat of Wallender would have done ok but people who watch Wallender would be attracted by 'The Promise' which did very well.

Being Human seems to have plateaued, and this series hasn't been as well received as series 2.

I watched a little DoI and about 5 minutes of the results show. Amazingly poor TV.
