The Vanessa Show: 109k (1.5%)
Five News at 5: 1.00m (6.9%)

I'm not sure how Vanessa Show compares to the usual slot average for C5. Five News at 5 seems to be doing really well though.
Thanks. Certainly very good for the 5pm news. A million on a normal weather day is fantastic. And a decent share for C5 too. All the more respectiable given the strong competition on BBC1/2/ITV1/C4. Compare it to last weeks OK figures though and it proves it's being boosted by Neighbours.

As for The Vanessa Show, the rating doesn't seem that good, when compared to Mondays rating and the slot average:

Thanks Mike- It's okay. Normally closer to 100k in that slot so it's a slight improvement.
Quite some fall since Monday, but its early days yet, and not at disaster levels

Hope Kidnap and Ransom does ~5m tonight or higher. Doubt it though. Good tactic going straight into News at Ten without any adverts.
Yes, for the first time in a long time I sat down to watch ITV1 at 9pm and I was quite impressed with this drama. Really was rather good with strong production values and deserves to have done well. That's me 'locked in' for the next couple of weeks anyway.

Can't help but feel it was wasted on a Thursday, but as ever we'll see when the figures come out.

So what's everyone's predictions for Kidnap & Randsom ( which was great I might add). Deserves at least 5m+. Will be intresting to see how CFWM does against it too. I imagine that will come out on top.

I suppose so, but it made a nice change to have a drama tonight rather than Monday IMO and thinking about it - could both ITV1 & BBC1 compliment eachother - drama vs comedy?

LOL Kaplinsky leaves and the figures shoot up. Further proof if ever it was needed that the reported £700k salary they were paying her was bonkers. Matt Barbet is perfect for the role.

The Weakest Link does come across as extremely tired, doesn't it. I remember when the BBC were first criticised for shortening the CBBC hours (after the loss of Neighbours), they indicated that the had ideas and plans for that slot. The impression I took was that TWL was a relatively short term measure. Obviously thats not been the case - we can only presume the development for that slot came to nought and the priorities have since shifted elsewhere.
I know, it's ridiculous, it's been there nearly three years now. I don't mind them showing new episodes but it's taking the piss to show repeats as well, as said if they can't afford new programmes all year round they could at least show repeats of something else, Pointless or something instead to give it a break. BBC2 manage to alternate the quizzes at 4.30, I dunno why BBC1 can't do it at 5.15, it gets a crap lead-in anyway and the Six O'Clock News hardly needs the benefit, so it's not like it's a high profile slot where underperformance would send the whole of BBC1 haywire.

Land Girls. the one programme that's replaced it (apart from the fiftieth anniversary Blue Peter) is back next week, of course, but at 2.15 this time, which is a waste.

There was lots of disruption last night due to the Tuscon memorial but 2 ratings stood out for different reasons. The Middle pushed past 10m and hit a 3.0 in the key demo at 8pm but ABC's new drama, Off The Map, struggled out of the gate with a 2.3 rating in the demo. Acknowledging the possibility that the schedule mess hit OTM last night, ABC have dropped Private Practice tonight and will instead repeat the OTM premiere after Grey's Anatomy. Paula Abdul's Live To Dance had just a 1.5 from 9.20pm while The Defenders on CBS an hour later was similarly low. Modern Family, at 9.20pm, still managed a 4.2.

On the cable news networks, coverage of Obama's speech was most watched on FOX (3.80m) followed by CNN (2.27m) and MSNBC (2.15m).

Source: Tvbythenumbers

Also, in what is sure to be one of the more interesting casting projects of pilot season, Charlie's Angels (ABC) is now ordered to pilot.

On Tuesday night, Comedy Central's Tosh.O drew 3.6m viewers and a 2.5 rating among A18-49, putting it ahead of broadcast competition including CBS' The Good Wife and NBC's Parenthood.

Finally, the 18-49 rating for BET's The Game was 3.6 - well above the demo averages for any of the broadcast networks let alone The CW.

Probably Marchlands for five weeks. The press pack for it is up on the ITV Press Centre: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press...s/default.html

Yeah I watched it too and enjoyed it.

ITV should have aired it on Monday night instead of The Biggest Loser. What a missed opportunity. I know it still had a Corrie lead-in, but it will be at least 1m less than Monday night when 11m watched the 20.30 episode.

Neighbours holding up well it seems, however am dreading Fridays ratings as they usually drop off and since its two episodes am really hoping the second episode doesn't "tank" too much. How did the rest of the shows on 11 do? I think it was released on Monday that Neighbours was the 3rd most watched digital show that day, wonder if that is holding up? Even if they where in the top 5 it would be good.

For all the arguments against Coronation Street on Tuesday, the idea isn't to boost Coronation Street in my mind - at least not in the short term anyway - the main thing is to boost Tuesday's in general. It needs support.

I also think the way they could use the second half hour on Emmerdale; bear with me so this makes sense:

Tuesday
7.00 Tuesday 8pm programme
8.00 Coronation Street
8.30 Emmerdale
9.00 Tuesday 9pm programme

Thursday
7.00 Tuesday 7.30pm programme
7.30 Thursday 7.30pm programme
8.00 Coronation Street
8.30 Emmerdale
9.00 Thursday 9pm programme

Friday
7.00 Emmerdale (60 minutes)
8.00 Friday 8pm programme
8.30 Coronation Street

Emmerdale and Coronation Street have relatively stable schedules. The 8pm hour is boosted on Tuesday (the soaps will fare better than the current programming) and Coronation Street should do better starting at the junction on Thursday rather than 8.30pm. The 7pm shows should do ok if not spectacularly against The One Show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, back to yesterday - good for ITV1 throughout the night; The Unforgettable... did better than I thought it would. The film did reasonably well but with it being a soap free night I'm surprised that BBC1 aren't putting more effort into programming there. Great Railway Journey's performed fantastically for BBC2 while the 9pm and 10pm hours improved Channel 4's share for the day. I think NCIS got squeezed out considering BBC1 and ITV1 started before it. I didn't expect to see The Weakest Link third in the pre-news slot.

those TEN news ratings are not very promisng, I rather fear the Regional News wont be that much ahead of Neighborus, excellent ratings for the both Big Bang Theorys on Go!, so much for my thinking that Neighbours would out preform the other mutli channels programs.

Neighbours was 3rd on ELEVEN behind two Simpsons episodes.

35 The Simpsons Thurs Eleven 316,000 62,000 121,000 35,000 49,000 49,000
39 The Simpsons Eleven 280,000 56,000 106,000 31,000 45,000 41,000

I'd guess Neighbours would've at least matched if not slightly beat that figure had it aired on TEN yesterday - at least the channel were offering an alternative at 6.30 when the soap was being aired instead of the same as Seven and Nine. Could we see in the long term ELEVEN beat TEN there I wonder, and if we do will there be an about face...?

I guess it all depends if the new look TEN news got good recognition or not - if it did it may build an audience. If not it'll lose them to Seven and Nine.

I do wonder what Neighbours will be doing in even a months time, Australia despite the weather is still in Summer time, so ratings are low, throw in the new channel element, and its really hard to tell if Neighbours will increase, decrease, or stay the same over the year.

I would say its possible Neighbours will beat the regioanl news in some citys, but TEN will be at crisis stations if it was to beat the total figure.

Of course the joy of even a 250,000 ratings for Neighbours (on ELEVEN) is that its 250,000 every day, not once a week, that kind of constestancy is not easy anywhere on TV, less so on multi channel TV.

I really hope the two Friday episodes are both over 200,000 and I think they will be, the 2nd one might be 200,000 - 210,000.

I wonder if C4 are looking at this, and wondering how it might apply to Hollyoaks if it was to move to E4, of course that move would be even smoother what with Hollyoaks First Look being on E4.

I know we're only three episodes in but I'm surprised at the consistency of Neighbours. By this point in the week on Ten, it would have lowered to varying degrees on the Mon/Tues figures. 250k is no great shakes but if it gets into the Winter time, if that could increase to somewhere in the 300-400k region, that would be a major achievement.

Seen as we're sort of on the subject of the soaps and pre-watershed schedules in general, what sort of expectations do people have for Human Planet, 8pm on BBC One tonight?
Probably about 4-4.5m. Hardly seen any promotion for it at all, and I had forgotten it was on tonight.

But if DIY SOS, for example, can get 5m+ against the ITV Soap Hour, then you've got to view that as the benchmark it should be hitting really.

What you and Robbie forget though is the BBC is the exception, not the rule. The BBC channels are in the minority by not offering a +1 channel, and as long as the reporting is consistent and made clear, ultimately it doesn't really matter.

Will be interesting to know though if ITV2 benefits from ITV2+1 being ditched on Freeview.
I doubt ITV2 would get any benefit from ITV2+1 being ditched, because my hunch on +1 channels is that hardly anybody (measured in the tens of thousands probably) consciously chooses to watch "an hour later" on a DOGged catch-up channel with ad breaks you can't whizz through - they'll record it on their PVR so they can skip through the ad breaks whether they watch it an hour later or two days later.

To my mind, these channels just hoover up casual viewers flicking around when "there's nothing on" whose attention is caught by something they didn't consider an hour earlier. Or who like to play at flicking back and forth between two showings of a film or 2 hour drama as a bit of fun (when there's nothing else on).

In the age of PVRs recording 2 channels whilst you watch another, and zapping through 1hour commercial TV shows in 45 minutes, I really can't see much need for +1 channels - other than for artificially inflating your "main" channel's ratings by hoovering viewers who are flicking around and just catch something.

Hope Kidnap and Ransom does ~5m tonight or higher. Doubt it though. Good tactic going straight into News at Ten without any adverts.
Thought it was OK. Nice to see ITV try something other than a plodding police procedural or the usual soggy dramas. It looked slick.

Was it a bit "Trevor Eve by numbers" though? Or just the nature of the programme that he looked a bit half-arsed?

The nature of it, and not being "core ITV" really, makes me think it won't get stellar numbers. But I'd be surprised if it came in at sub-5m. Suspect Not Going Out (a top notch episode by the way) will take a beating (sub 4m again) but CFWM should hold up at 6m+. It will be a big disappointment for the Beeb if it does sink below it.

Not seen CFWM yet. Was it as "quite good" as last weeks?

I think the Ten putting more news after their 5pm news is bad, news junkies will tune into either Seven News/Today Tonight or Nine News/A Current Affair. I think more news after an hour of news is too much anyway plus The 7pm Project so that two and half hours dedicated to current affairs.

Just watched Human Planet and think it will pull in a decent audience but I think it should aired on Sundays once Zen, South Riding and Terry Wogan's Ireland had finished.

Looking forward to Frozen Planet which will air probably Autumn, I wonder where other BBC NHU programmes like Nature's Miracle Babies will go as it was commissioned by Jay Hunt a while back.

BBC One hasn't done travelogues in a while, the last big one was Stephen Fry in America and Michael Palin hasn't done one in four years but I imagine his age is a factor and what they could it on.

It's on the cover of the Radio Times! It baffles me when people say stuff has had "hardly any promotion", especially on BBC1, they promote all their new stuff. The only stuff they don't bother with are the 7.30 things, mostly.

Strong for EE again and huge audience for HP against the soaps Similar drops for both CFWM and NGO-but still good performances.

Emmerdale incredibly close to Corrie again! There'll be a lot of dissappointed Emmerdale fans though (including myself) at how poor last nights anticipated episodes were. I've never seen so many threads on Emmerdale in the soaps forum!

Great result for K&R-surely the highest drama audience in that slot for a long, long time! About 2m higher than I expected and ITV will be breathing another sigh of relief-plus it looks like a new drama success as it seemed to be well received.

Thanks for the ratings, guys. Some brilliant figures from last night, particularly Human Planet which must've got the highest anti-Corrie programme rating in ages. It really does show that with the right programming, there's plenty of people who'll watch programmes which are up against the soaps. I suppose, though, shows like HP are expensive so they can't be showing this sort of thing every single week! Usually these landmark factual series start high and then drop some viewers, so I expect come next week it'll be closer to the 5m mark, but that would still be really good in that slot.

Very good rating for Emmerdale - with HD its audience should be at about 9m or just under which would be very high (one of its highest in a few years I think). It wasn't too far behind Corrie, but considering how well BBC1 did in that slot, I don't think Corrie did too badly as with HD it'll be just a tad behind EastEnders. Excellent start for Kidnap & Ransom - after L&O struggled in that slot, I was thinking 5m max for this so almost 6m is really good. If its ratings don't drop much in the next two weeks, a second series is sure to be on the cards (Trevor Eve was saying on the radio he wants to do more).

Fantastic rating for Human Planet, I've not watched it yet, have it recorded, but the bits they showed on the One Show looked extarordinary, really looking forward to viewing it, though I think I would put it on a Sunday evening.
Great rating for Kidnap & Ransom, anyone know if it's repeated? Didn't know it was on, and it's the kind fo thing I think I'd enjoy
