Why do we always get a new thread after some interesting ratings. Some great figures for ITV yesterday - a day when pretty much nothing flopped for them. And although I'm not a fan of some of the changes this year, I hope Dancing on Ice goes from strength to strength just to shut up the BBC brigade around here. The last couple of pages in the last thread show snobbery is alive and kicking! Quote:

She hasn't actually been running E4 for the past year (on maternity leave) but she won't be coming back. She's apparently one of the contenders for the job running ITV's multi-channels when Zai Bennett leaves.
The fact that E4 won't have its own controller is a bad sign, IMO (especially as it will share a "channel manager" with More4). A few years ago they were really pushing original UK scripted shows but they seem to have cooled off and I worry for Skins this year. I've watched since the start but I'm not really sure I can be bothered with a 3rd set of characters. Will be interesting to see how Shameless does this week, especially tonight out of it's usual Tuesday slot. Also no E4 First Look all week, so that should bump ratings a bit. And could The Biggest Loser really help Glee, I'll play it safe and go 1.5m, but it could easily get it's highest figure ever tonight - followed by a big drop for Tool Academy. E4 should have delayed that a week so it wasn't up against the premiere of Shameless. |

I have its excluding HD tape-checked averaged was 7.44m.
Another mistake from DS: 3.15m was the tape-checked rating excluding HD, so including HD 3.38m looks correct. |

Dalglish coming back provided a great story and set the tone for ITV's coverage. The viewers responded and bingo-- a great result. Unfortunately for ITV dream ties like this one are a rarity in the FA Cup competition. |

Looking at the Broadcatsing forum it appears as though the FA Cup replay which will be shown by ITV is Leeds United v Arsenal - no surprises there.
ESPN have the following to choose from: Manchester City v Leicester City Wolverhampton Wanderers v Doncaster Rovers Cardiff City v Stoke City And Derby County v Crawley Town if that ends in a draw tonight. Not sure whether they'd go for Manchester City's match or the Cardiff City game for the shock result. |

They might as well go for the Man City one and follow it through to its conclusion. (having shown the first part Sunday night)

Really good night - their most impressive FA Cup football rating I can remember. Two huge teams and lots of additional circumstances always made that likely, I suppose. Dancing on Ice did terrifically on premiere, but we'll have to wait and see whether this series follows last years trend or not. Wild at Heart did great, as we've come to expect. I'd love to see how it would cope outside the DOI embrace though - it feels like a wasted opportunity for something new. Quote:
Lark Rise was a tad down from last year's series opener but a very strong rating for it nevertheless - its joint 2nd best ever and although I don't watch it, I think it's a bit harsh on its fans that this series is likely to be its last given how well it's been rating over the last 12 months.
In ratings terms, I'm sure the BBC would be delighted to have it continue, but I suppose they might decide its a good opportunity to end it and save some money. A full series of Upstairs Downstairs could be a big candidate for spring 2012 too - and though that would air at 9, they probably wouldn't want LRTC on air at the same time. |

I'm not going to lie, C5 got a mauling (only 1.1 share points ahead of Sky Sports 1) but that week is always a struggle for them every single year and it was up on the equivalent week in 2009/10. I don't see the big deal. |

With all the officials in, here's the Top 20 Official Ratings for 2010:
01 - 17.71m - THE X FACTOR (12/12/10) - ITV1/HD 02 - 16.41m - EASTENDERS (19/02/10) - BBC1 03 - 14.75m - CORONATION STREET (06/12/10) - ITV1/HD 04 - 14.63m - WORLD CUP 2010: ENG V ALG (18/06/10) - ITV1/HD 05 - 14.28m - STRICTLY COME DANCING (04/12/10) - BBC1/HD 06 - 13.59m - WORLD CUP 2010: ENG V GER (27/06/10) - BBC1/HD 07 - 13.50m - BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT (05/06/10) - ITV1/HD 08 - 13.48m - I'M A CELEBRITY... GET ME OUT OF HERE! (04/12/10) - ITV1/HD 09 - 12.47m - COME FLY WITH ME (25/12/10) - BBC1/HD 10 - 12.27m - DOCTOR WHO (01/01/10) - BBC1/HD 11 - 11.29m - THE ROYLE FAMILY (25/12/10) - BBC1/HD 12 - 10.77m - DOWNTON ABBEY (07/11/10) - ITV1/HD 13 - 10.57m - GAVIN AND STACEY (01/01/10) - BBC1/HD 14 - 9.96m - EMMERDALE (14/01/10) - ITV1 15 - 9.82m - A TOUCH OF FROST (05/04/10) - ITV1 16 - 9.71m - BBC NEWS (18/12/10) - BBC1/HD 17 - 9.68m - THE FIRST ELECTION DEBATE (15/04/10) - ITV1 18 - 9.64m - DANCING ON ICE (10/01/10) - ITV1 19 - 9.37m - NEW YEAR LIVE (31/12/10) - BBC1/HD 20 - 9.36m - CHILDREN IN NEED (19/11/10) - BBC1/HD Notes: - Only one World Cup entry per channel. - A weighted average for the full slot for the World Cup games. - No duplicates: i.e. no BGT/DOI/IAC/SCD in there twice. - HD audience included for all programmes airing on HD. - Touch of Frost rating ammended so it's for the full slot, not just 68-minutes which BARB did. It would've been in 15th place anyway. - BARB's chart on their website will be different as they won't be including HD for programmes which aired on BBC1 (before October) and ITV1. --------------------------------------------- An equal 5/5 or 10/10 split between BBC1 and ITV1 in that Top 20. It's an impressive list with a lot of shows getting their best ratings in years (or ever): TXF, EE, Corrie, SCD, IAC, G&S to name a few. I doubt 2011 will be able to match a list with ratings as high as that! |

BBC1's overnights may be affected tonight as BBC1 Scotland are showing Scottish Cup Football from 7.30pm-9.30pm, at which point tonight's Panorama is being aired.
I'm not sure whether the Football will be more or less popular across the border than the usual schedule, but just a heads up. |

US Ratings - Sunday 9th January
ABC:
7pm - America's Funniest Home Videos - 7.55m (1.8) 8pm - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - 9.11m (2.6) 9pm - Desperate Housewives - 12.69m (3.8) 10pm - Brothers & Sisters - 8.38m (2.3) CBS: 7pm - 60 Minutes - 10.45m (1.6) 8pm - CSI: Miami - 11.90m (2.5) 9pm - Undercover Boss - 11.60m (3.0) 10pm - Criminal Minds (R) - 7.09m (1.8) FOX: 7pm - NFC Wildcard Over-run - 35.96m (13.0) 7.30pm - NFC Wildcard/Post-Game - 29.74m (11.0) 8pm - The Simpsons - 12.65m (5.7) 8.30pm - Bob's Burgers - 9.41m (4.5) 9pm - Family Guy - 9.29m (4.7) 9.30pm - The Cleveland Show - 7.36m (3.5) NBC: 7pm - Dateline NBC - 3.99m (0.7) 8pm - Dateline NBC - 7.25m (1.5) 9pm - The Cape - 8.39m (2.6) The Premieres: FOX's new animated comedy, Bob's Burgers, got off to a strong start. But that's no surprise given the huge lead-in. Meanwhile, NBC's The Cape had a start that means it's not dead yet but given the regular drop off over the next few episodes, it's not looking too good. On the plus side, it's audience was pretty steady over the 2 hour premiere. ABC: Not good news here. Vs same week last year Desperate Housewives was down 19% and Brothers & Sisters was down a rather alarming 36%. B&S had a 77% retention last year, down to a weak 61% last night. Tvbythenumbers |

US Series Renewals
ABC Family has ordered a second season of its breakout hit, Pretty Little Liars, fresh of a big midseason premiere a week ago. It's also picking up a 4th season of Secret Life of the American Teenager, it's first success in the scripted area. Both shows were ordered by Paul Lee, who is now running ABC.
And he has been busy too. Modern Family, The Middle, Cougar Town, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Castle have all been picked up for the 2011/2012 season. No surprises there. |

Good news obviously for those series who have been renewed by ABC, but it casts doubt on some others. I expect all their autumn premiere shows to be axed if their nearly all of their mid season programming stays above a 2.3.
Desperate Housewives not being renewed is possibly a sign that next season will be its last. Brothers and Sisters may be axed with its current ratings which aren't that good, but it may also be in a similar situation to DH with a last season next year. |
