So TEN in Oz have ditched Neigbhours and The Simpsons for...60 minutes more news? Imagine BBC1 ditching CBBC for an afternoon of news

For someone who claims to be a big BBC fan, you don't seem to watch it very much. Human Planet has been heavily trailed this last week or two and that was reflectled in the ratings.

Some very good audiences last night. Complementary scheduling at work. HP was a good alternative to the soaps and comedy against drama at 9pm worked too.

Good to see NGO holding on to most of last week's audience and staying above 4m.

You seriously expected a big new, well-trailed drama starring Trevor Eve, in January, to get 3.5-3.8m viewers?

Come off it...

Good numbers, for sure. Not good that CFWM did fall below the 6m mark (5.97m it seems), but I expect it will timeshift a bit. Pleased that NGO held up above 4m comfortably.

As K&R falls off a bit (most ITV dramas seem to), then CFWM/NGO might rally a little next week.

Stonking for Human Planet. A good million more than expected. Dented the Soap Hour.

Well BBC1 ditched EastEnders the night Cameron became prime minister and they ditched a number of daytime programmes last winter for ''News Specials''. There is virtually no situation however when they would interrupt children's programmes, it would have to be a Controller decision.

I think it's more than K&R scores circa 6m and ZoeMcCallister thought it would get circa 4m. It did look quite heavy-going in the trailers but there was the reassuring presence of Trevor Eve to counter that (and, anyway, viewers are quite capable of watching heavy-going, downbeat. depressing drama in large numbers - as Eastenders currently demonstrates).

Despite its audience drop CFWM is still a firm ratings hit, especially for a comedy. It's hardly the first comedy to be a ratings success despite getting a critical mauling - e.g, My Family and 80% of every hit comedy ITV has ever produced.

From Broadcast

Quote:
“ Come Fly with Me, the airport sketch show from Matt Lucas and David Walliams, took off with 5.6m viewers at 9pm – more than a million viewers behind ITV1 and ITV1 HD at the time.

But as Kidnap and Ransom steadily lost viewers, BBC1 took the lead at 9.15pm and was half a million ahead with 6m by the end of the episode.

Come Fly With Me drew an average audience of 5.97m (23.8%) across the half hour.
Kidnap and Ransomdrew 5.65m (23%) across the 9pm slot, of which 245,400 (1%) watched the ITV1 HD simulcast”

“ITV1’s soaps proved big draws as ever, bringing 9.02m (36.43%) to Emmerdale at 8pm and 9.6m (37%) to Coronation Street – both figures include ITV1 HD”

The Simpsons - 1.9m
Hollyoaks - 1.3m

So inc. HD, Corrie is just 0.1m away from EE. I don't think that's bad at all considering Thursday is still the weak link in the Corrie schedule. 9m for the 20.00 Emmerdale is excellent! It falls 0.3m short of the 9.3m Emmerdale had in the same slot last year when Natasha killed Mark. Also K&R did very well indeed.

Not sure, but I know it was repeated on one of the minor digital channels at 10pm last night...

Wasn't it a heavily trailed "big episode" last night with another fire/death/train crash/whatever to bring about a ratings lift?

Seems like Human Planet did really well, but it also seems ITV1 HD is adding a lot onto the ITV1 figures, in Corrie's case 0.7m last night. Very good start for Kidnap and Ransom as well, glad ITV have a successful start for a drama on a day other than Monday for once.

Yeah. The last 2 dramas to air in that slot (L&O and The Bill) both flopped really, the latter more so and they were established dramas. The subject material didn't look too viewer friendly either. I think I predicted 4m in the RPG too.

I never saw one advert for it. I dunno how you can say 9m is a poor result when EE and Corrie are usually a few million away from Emmerdale, whereas last night, the gap between all three was 0.7m. Honestly Robbie, your hatred over any show on ITV is beyond ridiculous!!

I think it started at 20:31, so I don't actually think it would be tape-checked as it finished just before 20:58 I think.

Anyone know what's taking the place of Come Fly With Me when it finishes in a fortnight? Cos Not Going Out would still have 2 weeks left to run and might be a bit vulnerable without the leg-up it so obviously gets from Lucas and Walliams.

I see BBC1 loses an Eastenders of Friday 4th February because of the rugby. Maybe their planned schedule for 3rd February is:

7.30 Eastenders
8.30 Human Planet
9.30 Not Going Out

although I think it would be better to go:

7.30 Eastenders
8.00 Human Planet
9.00 Eastenders
9.30 Not Going Out

This avoids a clash with any ITV soap, leaves HP in its regular slot and provides a boost for NGO because
1) it would have a bigger lead-in than it gets from CFWM and
2) it would be something to cheer viewers up after 30 minutes of Cockney misery.

Also Marchlands is probably suppose to launch on that night, so a 9pm Eastenders would seriously p!ss off ITV, which is always good for a laugh.

21:00 - Hustle

80% was very kind to ITV.

L+O had tough competition and was an established show that had never been a huge hit. The Bill was a show on the way to the scrapheap. Murder and Kidnap and Ransom or whatever its called is a much hyped (Trevor Eve has been on every show going promoting it this week), big name star and had a Corrie lead-in. How you could expect only 4m is baffling.

Come come now Roscoe, your bias for ITV and it's soaps shines rather bright. Have you purposely used a tape-check rating for Emmerdale and a whole slot rating for Eastenders to compare (it should be a gap of 1.3m if compared correctly) or made a genuine mistake?
