I think I pay £9.99 per annum - and that is a bargain. I've used it for about 10 years, and couldn't manage my viewing without it.

digiguide has never been expensive, but £2.99 is very good, my order also runs out in April.

I would either have Eastenders air on the wednesday at 7:30pm on have it air

Tuesday EastEnders 7:30pm,Holby at 8,EastEnders 9:00pm,30mins comedy slot

Or as a last result

EastEnders 8:00pm & 9:30pm on Friday with Qi and some other comedy between 8:30pm and 9:30pm

Causes a soap clash where its not really necessary though, and ITV (if they had any sense) would just bundle Emmerdale into an hour long 7-8.

Because they've got a spare half hour show (Not Going Out) they could just run EE 7.30 and 9, with Human Planet unaffected and NGO getting a boost (...OK, maybe we've found the reason I like this idea... )

A bit, but its not unheard of. And its the solution which means that no other shows, on either BBC or ITV, get bumped around. Just seems logical to me.

It was pretty underwhelming given the amount of advance publicity and the fact that two-long running characters (who have been in the show since the 1990s) were killed off.

RT misnumbered it, but they had the correct description.

Notes from ITV's provisional schedule for week beginning 29th January:

Erm...... these are programmes for a February schedule and not a July schedule, right?

The breakdown for Kidnap & Ransom was:

21:00- 6.38m
21:15- 5.56m
21:30- 5.31m
21:45- 5.34m

There was quite a big fall initially but it was pretty stable in the remaining 45 minutes. Worth noting that there were no adverts during the programme in the first 15 minutes whereas the other quarters had adverts, so that would've depressed the averages of the last 3 quarters as usually some people tune over during the adverts (about half a million in yesterday's case). Also the Corrie "overflow" which I was talking about yesterday would also help artificially boost the first 15 mins.

I also think that sometimes the breakdowns can be quite misleading and not necessary indicate that a show will lose a lot of viewers the following week. For e.g. ep 1 of Downton Abbey lost viewers throughout but the following week's episode rated better, whereas the first Thursday episode of Law & Order UK was very stable throughout the hour but the following week it rated a million worse. So it's really unpredictable - although I do expect K&R to fall next week but not massively (maybe down to 5m-ish).


I'm 90% sure that Corrie rating is tape-checked. Not just because the HD number was unusally very high, but also I was waiting for K&R to start and seem to remember Corrie ending just before 20:57:30.


Yeah I think BBC1 will do that. It's quite rare for EastEnders to have an episode on Wednesday so I expect the Thursday episode either that week or the following week to be extended to an hour which would push back Human Planet by 30 mins and fill the gap perfectly before Not Going Out. The other suggestion of having EE at 9pm seems fine too but I can't remember a non-Xmas/New Year's Day EE episode airing at 9pm in years so I think that's unlikely to happen.


ITV will probably be airing an FA Cup replay on the Wednesday. MM has just been put down as a placeholder in case there's no decent replays (which is unlikely - I'm sure something will pop up).

Edit: oops- seems like I got my dates wrong and it's very unlikely there'll be any FA Cup replays that night as the 4th round is being played just 3-4 days earlier. That night could potentially be John Nettles' last episode of Midsomer Murders but it looks like ITV are looking to air that episode later in the year, hence the repeat.

As for the Tuesday slot, the following week the BRITS is airing so they've got one awkward week to air something at 8pm. I don't think it's too bad a choice as Corrie related programmes have done okay in the last year or so.

I was shocked at the fact that one (or maybe even both) of these Emmerdale veterans did not leave of their own accord.

The nature of their exit was also pretty shoddy. The fire and explosion were pretty well done, but they didn't really get a final scene as such. And I read that one doesn't even get an onscreen funeral, despite being in the show for almost two decades.

If you thought Barbara Windsor's exit from EastEnders was a letdown, this double whammy eclipsed that by some margin.

I missed the actual fire scene and only saw scenes in random rooms with people talking about a fire down the road - reminiscent of them clips ITV were using of the Tram Crash in the early days of Corrie when the action was all off screen.


Ah - I've found it now, it's returned to 27. I'd have thought they'd have kept it on 33 and given ITV1+1 the more prominent slot. At least they didn't do what C4 did and put it in their first slot, bumping everything else down the EPG.


Those news ratings fairly underwhelming really, but not surprising considering the all day coverage on all the main channels most of this week. Ten's 5-7pm news strategy isn't looking like a good idea though.


Well they initially tried to sell The One Show as an extension to the 6pm news hour - even if it did turn out to be more This Morning than Newsnight.


Imagine if C4 could convince their portfolio of chefs to do Come Dine with Me. I think the execs would self combust!

So every soap episode would have been tape checked in the Digital Spy ratings report for last night. Can't find any website that has reported full slot ratings with HD though. I thought ATV did full slot ratings but they seem to have used tape checked for the ITV soaps and full slot ratings for Eastenders and Neighbours.

Maybe the ITV1 +1 ratings have been included.

Yeah it's odd that MG haven't updated yesterday's ratings. I don't have the HD included ratings, but here are estimates for the full-slot averages having looked at the % increase that the tape-checked ratings increased from their SD-only ratings to HD-only ratings and applying those % increases to the full slot averages:

Corrie: 9.3/9.4m


ATV mostly get their ratings from other websites including this thread, which I suspect they used for those soap figures.

There are some very strong timeshifts there: Above Suspicion's first episode timeshifted 1.7m, while Silent Witness' Mon episode timeshifted 1.5m.

Above Suspicion's series average was 6.63m. That's down 1.14m (-15%) compared to last year's series average. But an average like is still pretty high for a drama (would've made ITV's Top 10 drama list last year) and I think worth bringing back for another shot.

Come Fly with Me continued to bring in big timeshifts - 1.3m for that episode, and so the current series average after three episodes stands at 9.69m! Also Not Going Out did well to break the 5m barrier.

Also, I am in awe at those huge official timeshifts - I suppose 2 crime dramas against each other would do that though.

Elsewhere, A&E set a network record with the launch of their new drama series, "Beyond Scared Straight" had 3.7m viewers and a strong 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. It's a drama success to add to A&E's unscripted success with Hoarders (3.0m), Storage Wars (2.8m) and The First 48 (2.7m).

The subdued broadcast schedule is really just the quiet before the storm.

Next week, the USA network rolls out its drama slate which includes returning hits Royal Pains and White Collar alongside new series, Fairly Legal. On Monday at 10pm, Skins launches on MTV. With a Jersey Shore lead-in, can it top NBC's new Harry's Law in the key ad demos? I'll not be surprised if it does. The Cape takes up its regular Monday 9pm slot while CBS' Blue Bloods gets a trial run on Wednesdays at 10pm. NBC debuts its new Thursday line-up with Parks & Recreation getting a lead-in from The Office, 30 Rock & Outsourced movng to 10pm while a new series, Perfect Couples, premieres at 8.30pm. Fringe moves into God's Waiting Room - Fridays at 9pm. Oh yes, and there's the small matter of American Idol returning to annihilate everything in its path.

Meanwhile, Nina Tassler (CBS Entertainment President) has been talking to the press. They're hopeful of signing up Mark Harmon for more NCIS, a bit disappointed with Live To Dance, confident about The Big Bang Theory holding up vs American Idol and not planning to order too many new series as they don't have many slots to fill. For the first time CBS have openly admitted that they are concerned about Charlie Sheen but when one reporter put that in any other job he'd have been fired, Tassler responded "For what? For going to work and doing his job?". In some ways that's part of the problem - he keeps showing up to work on time and doing his job and he has no interest in stopping.
