Wow. An impressive start for sure.

Did it help boost other CNN shows?

I expect so. Notes on a Scandal was a long time coming after Sky, but others like Starter for 10 which premiered on BBC were a lot quicker.

Will be fascinating to see how it holds up. CNN will be delighted, particularly with the target demo figure which is so crucial in the cable news world.”

He's making quite a leap tonight - from Oprah Winfrey to Howard Stern. Both massive names but rather different audiences! And by the sounds of it, quite a different interview.

Looks like Oprah was a bigger coup than I thought. I really didn't see the premiere shooting up from Larry King let alone more than 200%. And I wasn't the only one. The poll on TVBTN had nearly 70% saying it would be under 700k this week.

There's only one way to go from here, but as you say, he has given himself some room to fall.

The ratings for Piers' come from a CNN press release, there's no other data out yet (aside from what CNN told us about FOXN & MSNBC at 9pm). But at the very least, Anderson Cooper should be up significantly at 10pm and maybe some lift for Parker Spitzer as well.

Interesting bit to add on the Piers Morgan ratings from TV Newser who note that Hannity on FNC and Maddow on MSNBC both saw ratings increases compared to previous Mondays suggesting Morgan attracted viewers who would not usually watch cable news (perhaps America's Got Talent fans or more likely Oprah fans), indeed both had relatively big interviews - Sarah Palin on FNC and Michael Moore on MSNBC.

Quote:
“ Interestingly, both Hannity and Maddow were up double digits from previous Mondays, which implies that Morgan brought in viewers that don’t typically tune in regularly to TV news.

Morgan hosted Oprah Winfrey as his first guest, while Sean Hannity had an exclusive interview with Sarah Palin, her first since the shootings in Tucson, Arizona.

Of course, viewers should expect the ratings to eventually settle at a lower number, as premiere episodes–bolstered by buzz–typically generate far higher viewership than a program ends up getting.

We will have the full ratings chart available later this afternoon.

Definitely - as I was watching it at the cinema the other day, I was thinking how it would have been perfect for BBC Films.

It's difficult to see what films will be successful, on paper The King's Speech, doesn't sound that appealing but it's actually really good.

I wonder how much return Film4 got from Slumdog Millionaire, it must have made them a healthy profit from their investment.

They did show it quite a few times on 4, More4 and Film4.

BTW: Freddie Flintoff vs the World is getting so much PR on ITV1, and its going to be on ITV4. I hope it does well as it seems to of cost a lot.

The Biggest Loser is appropriately named. Surely a show like this belongs in the summer months. However, I shall be interested to see how Taggart does tonight against Silent Witness, surely it can't trend below 3 million again.

Blimey, that's a bit of a shock, CDWM finishing fourth.

And a bit annoying as I predicted 2.7m in the DS Ratings Predictions game based on past strong teatime performances.

But also quite funny. Serves C4 right for milking their hits to death.

I'm a fan of CDWM but I agree Channel 4 have milked it to death with so many editions but in daytime and primetime.

Yesterday's demographics: http://i51.tinypic.com/2qdvsbk.jpg

Few things I noticed:

- Glee was the most watched show among 16-34s in the 9pm slot.
- One Born Every Minute beat BBC1 and ITV1 among 16-34s at 9pm.
- The One Show is one of the oldest skewing shows in primetime TV.
- Emmerdale's audience is pretty downmarket.
- EastEnders beat Corrie in all demographics until 44 years, Corrie beat EastEnders in all demos from 45+.
- Biggest Loser had a "broad" audience. (Doesn't particularly skew too young nor old).

Since when has ITV won the 5pm slot!

Pretty even with just 500k between the big 4
Interesting that 40% of the audience are watching digital channels though

Glee's median age must be really low - 1,064,000 of the 1,670,000 (64%) were under 35. A high ABC1 skew as well.

The ITV soaps seem to be lower in the key demo's than usual?

Quite surprised at the 35% A16-34 for One Born Every Minute - although I guess the top end of that might have reasons for being interested! Channel 4 shows always seem to skew younger than you'd think.

Thank you. Hardly a stellar start to the new series of CDWM finishing fourth but perhaps not many people knew it was new. I think it will improve as the week goes on. The Chase is proving pretty stable though.

One more ratings request if you'd be so kind, and it's a bit of an obscure one: do you have anything for the new Boulton & Co programme on Sky News, 1pm-2pm? Also for comparison purposes The Live Desk between 1pm-2pm on Monday 11th?

Cheers in advance.

Yeah, here you go: http://i55.tinypic.com/2mezdqw.jpg

Home & Away skews quite similar to Corrie age-wise, although it's got a really downmarket audience. Neighbours' audience a little more upmarket.

Boulton & Co averaged 39k (0.5%) between 1-2pm yesterday.

Last Monday (10th Jan), The Live Desk averaged 41k (0.5%) between 1-2pm.

Hollyoaks really beats H&A and Neighbours in the 16-34 bracket (640k vs. 188k/ 238k). It has always amazed me that Neighbours average viewer is likely to be a woman in her 50s or 60's. It really doesnt fit the shows image!
