The Schofe just plugged on This Morning that DOI got 10.7m viewers. Is that right? I thought it was less.

For starters, they don't crash diet, they follow a good, very healthy (i.e lots of fresh natural organic foods) diet and the extreme weight loss each week is actually achieved through massive amounts of exercise (a couple of hours a week of resistance/weight training and lots and lots of low intensity cardio) and not a drastic cut in calories. As for what happens after the show is over. Yes some have regained the weight, but in compasrison to the ratio of normal dieters, where about 90+% put the weight back on, only approx 40-50% of BL contestants regain the weight.

Anyway, I have to say I'm very disappointed in the ratings, especially since it had Corrie as a lead-in. I wonder if the rather dull (IMHO) promos that ITV have been showing are to blame for the low sampling? Personally I quite enjoyed it and the pace seemed about right. Hopefully the numbers will improve next week.

Must be a 1 minute peak, pretty sure 5 minute peak was ~10.3m.

Great for Shameless, considering there's no E4 episodes I hope it can continue through the week. One Born Every Minute did well too.

Glee did very well to crush Five and just beat BBC Two, but isn't it slightly down on the last series?

I can see Shameless getting 3m across the week. Is it Channel 4's most popular drama of the last few years? A great figure for Glee as well.

Extremely good for Shameless. Not sure how it does it but it still seems as popular with viewers today as it was years ago. A bit of good news for Channel 4 there.

The Biggest Loser did slightly better than I expected, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it drop closer to 3m as the weeks progress.

Some big figures for BBC One last night. EastEnders is doing fantastically well at the moment. Panorama also seemed very high-- not sure what the subject was? And excellent for Silent Witness as well capitalising on the lack of drama competition from ITV.

Good start for Episodes. I didn't think it would do as well as that. I liked it myself but I think it will need a bit more Matt LeBlanc next week to stop a big drop as many weren't too keen.

Channel 5 had a respectable night with the Eddie Stobart seasonal special and the movie, although Live From Studio Five rated as terribly as ever for its return.

Considering the lead-in, that's a crap figure for The Biggest Loser. And deservedly so, as it was rubbish.

Interest in the subject of "fat" peaked on TV about five years ago. This isn't going to reverse the trend.

Notes:

1) BBC2 is reported as actually having the biggest fall. This is slightly different to the above and will be because the numbers above are only to one decimal place (eg BBC2 MAY actually have fallen from say 7.54% to 6.86%).

2) Notwithstanding the above, it's obviously very close between BBC2 and Five for the "prize" of the largest fall. I thought someone on here said that Five had been doing well in recent months? It appears that is not the case.

3) Multichannel numbers not reported by Broadcast but are implied as balancing figures.

4) BBC1 is clearly the best performing terrestrial channel by a very wide margin in terms of both actual share and, more importantly, the change for the year.

Coronation Street had 10.5million not 11million.

That would make it seem better as the drop would not be so big.

Still great ratings though.

But the basis for those comments were based mostly on how individual programmes were performing, rather than share related. If you look at the number of shows that are rating around the 2m mark after 8pm, that seems to have risen. They also seem to be hitting their 1.0m+ target in prime more and more. Many shows including Neighbours up YoY, etc. Ok so not very scientific this method but just looking at the broader picture they seem to be making progress.

6pm-8pm has been really challenging for them though and is bringing down their overall share. This must be having a significant impact.

At least the drop wasn't quite as big as BBC Two. All I will say about Channel 4 is they got off very lightly and it'll be interesting to see the figures this time next year after their first full year without BB.

EDIT: If you strip out +1, Channel 4's drop would be more significant and closer in line with BBC Two and Channel 5. Controversial to include it in this way.

I thought TWS would have done worse without Matthew, that's actually not a bad figure.

Great numbers all round really - EE, Pano, SW for BBC1 (but probably slightly lifted by the Scottish football attracted more viewers than BBC1 normally would north of the border), The Lakes very strong for ITV1, EmFm and Coro, Shameless excellent (but 5 nights is overkill - may drop off), and even Episodes wasn't the total "metropolitan media frenzy but ratings flop in the country" I expected (but will surely sink towards 1m).

However just had a look at Five's monthly breakdown and must say it doesn't look great:

Obviously may be seasonal factors in June and July (and January and December) but on face of it overall decline appears to be continuing. October and November are well down on February and March.

Just to say C4+1 was running throughout 2009 so is fully included in the comparative.

Broadcast does not split out the figures but I doubt it would make much of a difference.

However I would have thought that prior to the launch of BBC1HD (which is very recent) this would not be a massive factor for BBC2.

But as far as the figures in post 86 are concerned, it is likely to be a noticeable factor for ITV1.

So I suspect ITV1's performance is a bit better than implied above.

This would imply an overall picture of the "big 2" (ie BBC1 and ITV1) holding up much better than BBC2/C4/C5 as multichannel takes share from the "main" 5 channels.

The biggest problem for Five has been their high-profile dramas, rather than the 6-9pm slot.

If you look at 2009, they were getting 3.5m for CSI and averaged 2.8m for CSI: Miami. NCIS averaged 2.7m, and The Mentalist averaged 2.8m (all consolidated figures).

In 2010, all of these shows were down by over 10%. CSI, which is the most important show on their channel, was down by 20% in 2010, only averaging 2.8m. That's pretty much the worst it's ever done in the UK.

If you look at what Five treated as a priority in the first half of 2010, when CSI was slipping, it was all about Good Times, Live From Studio Five, and Don't Stop Believing. And that, in summary is why the channel suffered this year. Not because these shows did badly, but because talking about them so much meant that the channel pretty much ignored CSI and NCIS, and those are the shows that bring in their ratings.

Re the possibility of BBC1 re-showing Indiana Jones 4 again on Weds 26th, I saw in the paper yesterday that the next edition of Crimewatch featuring the Jo Yeates reconstruction airs on Weds 26th. So that appears to rule that one out.

Although I suppose it could be the following Wednesday (which would be even more draft with a week break!)
