Soiderman 2 got 2m in an early slot as well. Just proves if you schedule the right movie, viewers will watch.

For a show which is supposedly "past its best", Top Gear's ratings for its last three episodes have been excellent and despite pretty tough competition, once again it got 6m+ last night (and will no doubt timeshift extremely well). I don't have the demo info, but I suspect it was the #1 show last night among 18-49s but I'll be able to post the details for definite tomorrow. BBC1's lineup held up well, as we've come to expect from them, with slight drops for Antiques Roadshow and Lark Rise compared to last week which is understandable given the tougher competition. Solid start for Terry Wogan's show - these travelogues on BBC1 seem to hover around the high 4's/low 5's mark and this fit into that range.

ITV1's DOI/WaH lineup was down about 0.6/0.7m week-on-week which I think is fine considering DOI was a really long show and Top Gear was always going to take a few of DOI/WaH's viewers away. Compared to the same night last year, overall DOI and WaH were up 5% year-on-year so I suspect ITV will be pretty happy with their performances. I think they'll be particularly pleased with how consistent That Sunday Night Show has been - three 3.2m ratings is good retention for an ITV panel show.

C5 had a good day with its mix of movies, a particularly excelent rating for Alladin. And although Being Human didn't quite get the 2m I was expecting, it was its most watched ever episode so that's not to be sniffed at, and it'll probably timeshift over 2m anyway. Good stuff.

It's very obviously going to be The X Factor with a few awards for added measure in between, probably get your token performances from Take That, Cheryl Cole, Joe McElderry, Matt Cardle, JLS, maybe even Wagner if we're lucky...”

Well we can tick one of them off: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s103/...m-at-ntas.html

No sign of Ford Monday Night Football yet (Sky Sports 1, was due to start at 7pm, but the presenters are suspended).
I imagine coverage of Bolton vs Chelsea will be from 7.30pm instead.

Hi Tassium,

Apologies but only just seen your message.

What in particular don't you like about the idea? All feedback is useful during the pilot stage.

Cheers,

That they might be but they won't exactly be reaping the benefits, with no ads during the programme itself except for other ITV1 programmes (due to using up their maximum ad minutes earlier in the evening on DoI/WaH) and no sponsor. It's a bit of a waste really. If I were ITV I'd be sorely tempted to put Comedy Rocks out of its misery and for That Sunday Night Show to became an hour-long That Friday Night Show. A bit like what happened to the Friday Night Project but in reverse.

I don't think it's a waste because by having a DOI lead-in for 8 weeks, it establishes an audience for the show which can be beneficial in the long-term and they'll probably place ads in it during future series (I expect it'll return in the Autumn if the figures keep up). It's a gamble but probably one worth taking especially because the show probably isn't that expensive to make anyway - it's not like airing an expensive drama or entertainment show without any adverts. They'll make back that money (and profit) through future series. Tbh, I don't think it'd have done much better than what Comedy Rocks is doing on Friday nights at the moment. The show sits well at 10pm on a Sunday with not much alternatives on offer but I think it'd struggle in the competitive 9pm slot.

It was only a matter of time before the X Factor got combined with Total Wipeout.

From C21 Media :

ITV1 has picked up a Scandinavian singing format from Zodiak Media Group for a primetime Saturday night slot.

Sing If You Can has been greenlit by ITV's director of entertainment and comedy, Elaine Beddell. "She ordered six episodes right there in the room as we were pitching it," said Grant Mansfield, CEO of Zodiak USA, who is now trying to secure a US deal for the format.

The format, known around Europe as Twist & Shout, was devised by Scandinavian format think-tank Zodiak Distillery and previously been sold in France (Virgin 17), Turkey (ATV), Indionesia (TPI), the Middle East (LBC) and Romania (Antena 1), India (Star TV) and ABS-CBN in the Philippines.

The format has celebs performing songs and dances while all the time being put off by what Mansfield describes as "Wipeout" stunts.

It has a 7.30pm start time and is coming live from Bolton Wanderers with David Jones. I suppose they didn't have enough time to teach other presenters how to do the touchscreen!

Countryfile continues to do well considering it was up against Stardust and Dancing on Ice.

It looks absolutely hideous, doesn't it? Just what we needed as well - another celebrity format!

I'm all for a bit of light entertainment if done right - but this wouldn't look out of place on Sky3 alongside Don't Forget The Lyrics.

Demographic info for Friday 21st Jan: http://i53.tinypic.com/29gcso1.jpg

- As usual, EastEnders was easily #1 in 16-34s and 18-49s.
- QI was the most upmarket skewing show out of that list. It also had more 16-34s than Hustle, which I was a bit surprised about.
- Hustle was quite close to Emmerdale in terms of 18-49s.
- Comedy Rocks skews pretty young but it was still one of the least watched shows among 16-34s and 18-49s from that list.

Demographic info for Saturday 22nd January: http://i52.tinypic.com/vnmnm9.jpg

- Take Me Out was the #1 show of the day in terms of 16-34s and 18-49s. It had as many 16-34s watching it as Corrie the night before.
- Interestingly, although In It To Win It was the most watched show on BBC1 in total viewers, it was the least popular non-repeat BBC1 primetime show in terms of 18-49s.
- Total Wipeout was BBC1's most popular show among 16-34s and 18-49s.
- Match of the Day was BBC1's most 18-49 skewing show of the evening.
- British Comedy Awards had more 16-34s watching it than Primeval, Casualty and In It To Win It. It also had a high skewing ABC1 audience.

I don't have Sunday's info. Since BARB messed up last week, I've been getting data one day late (which is annoying!), so I'll probably post that data tomorrow.

In It to Win It - 57% of the audience is 65+ is that record?

Apologies, I made a typo there . The 55-64 column for IITWI should read 1.16m (not 0.116m which I accidentally wrote), so 65+ was actually 2.23m (40% of audience).

I've now edited my previous post.

Would be interesting to know the record for non-English programmes on UK TV.

Didn't even realise the last series had finished. And I know it's cheap, but not exactly cost effective to rush out new episodes when the repeats perform so well.

How does the results show timeshift - is it simply a case of people recording it, or are they just not interested (or get the result elsewhere!).

Sing If You Can? More like Watch Only If you Have To. What a ridiculous idea and it's a sad indictment of our highest rating commercial channel that they have snapped it up - it should've been laughed out of the room. I can see it going the same way as the likes of Celebrity Wrestling. Let's hope so anyway.

Dancing on Ice would work better over the weekend rather than as focused on one night. Nearly three hours of reality TV show is hard to stick at for anyone. BBC1 held up and Top Gear performed really well for a show that some claim is beyond it's heyday.

I am so close to starting a thread mocking ITV for this move, snapping it up during the pitch, I cant believe this, that is pretty desperate of ITV.

Quite funny that (not the typo, the data), if we were in America, it'd be reported that 'Take Me Out wins night', when in reality among total viewers it was In It to Win It. Credit where its due though, its 16 to 34 audience appears to be increasing.

I thought ITV were starting to show some sanity with their commissions. OK, some programming isn't rating as well as it could (mainly down to stupid scheduling) but it's not down into the depths of 2005. But now this - something they shouldn't touch with a barge pole.
