EastEnders' HD debut pulled in over 1m viewers on BBC One HD.
I do think some HD scheduling decisions may come down to "Which programme is more likely to pull in the most viewers" Sadly, looking at the HD figures for Episodes (considering it went out just 30 minutes after BBC2), they made the right decision. In fact theThursday 30th December episode on BBC3 got 1.012m, and the BBC HD simulcast didn't make the top ten, so somewhere below 63,000!!!! Episodes would have been higher than EE as a simulcast. Nurse Betty, Rev and The Trip which all had HD simulcasts proved that. Consistenty top ten BBC HD shows, which the EE repeats aren't. |

No way would the EastEnders repeat have pulled in a million on BBC HD. It gets about that on BBC3.

The BBC1 HD simulcast of Doctor Who had 1.3m, as noted in the above link. The EastEnders BBC1 HD simulcast had a similarly high number - 1.09m. |

Yesterday's 10pm BBC HD repeat of EastEnders had just 3,000 viewers. So I agree that Episodes probably should've been given priority as it was the "new" programme, and a simulcast of BBC2 would have more likely got a higher rating than a simulcast of BBC3.

2010 FINAL OVERALL AUDIENCE SHARES (per Broadcast magazine):
BBC1 - 20.8% (2009 - 20.9%) Change = Down 0.5% BBC2 - 6.9% (2009 - 7.5%) Change = Down 8.0% ITV1 - 17.0% (2009 - 17.8%) Change = Down 4.5% C4 (inc +1) - 7.0% (2009 - 7.4%) Change = Down 5.4% Five - 4.5% (2009 - 4.9%) Change = Down 8.2% Multichannel - 43.8% (2009 - 41.5%) Change = Up 5.5% Notes: 1) BBC2 is reported as actually having the biggest fall. This is slightly different to the above and will be because the numbers above are only to one decimal place (eg BBC2 MAY actually have fallen from say 7.54% to 6.86%). 2) Notwithstanding the above, it's obviously very close between BBC2 and Five for the "prize" of the largest fall. I thought someone on here said that Five had been doing well in recent months? It appears that is not the case. 3) Multichannel numbers not reported by Broadcast but are implied as balancing figures. 4) BBC1 is clearly the best performing terrestrial channel by a very wide margin in terms of both actual share and, more importantly, the change for the year. http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/rating...022153.article Tremendous performance by BBC1 to almost maintain share in the past year. |

Regardless of whether or not it was EE or Episodes, 3,000 for that slot is incredulous. BARB got it wrong? |

That BBC HD figure for EastEnders is appalling. Why does it even need a HD repeat? Viewers can catch it in HD on BBC One HD. Get rid and use the slot more effectively, BBC.

Just in regards to the missing Part 3 of the thread, I've received a reply but it's as predicted earlier in the thread - it's been removed to reduce server load.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ridiculous scheduling from ITV1 last night worked as predicted by many; namely The Biggest Loser being the biggest loser and losing ratings hand over fist. Silent Witness was the main beneficiary though we'll have to wait for the officials to see what kind of impact the football had there. Shameless and the soaps had terrific nights. |

BREAKING NEWS
Australia: Neighbours debuts on Eleven with 254,000 viewers. Seems like a good figure for the launch, would be nice if it stays above 200,000 must of the week. ELEVEN good enough for a 3.6 share for the day, well behind Go! 7.9, but still the 3 most watch multi channel. TBH I would think TEN are hoping ELEVEN will get a 4% share. |

About what I expected for it, albeit at the lower end of my 250-300k prediction. Eleven generally got off to a good start, settling into third place out of the multichannels. Impressive for its first day on the air, I remember GO! and 7TWO took a lot longer to gain a respectable audience share. The news ratings were strong across the board as you'd expect. Surprising to see Nine beat Seven when Seven beats Nine normally all year round. It's a blow for Seven who have come under fire for not providing as much rolling coverage as Nine on the floods. |

Neighbours did better than I expected it to considering the news opposition. Maybe ELEVEN will be hoping for it to increase above 300,000 once the news programmes settle.
Nine News did very well - could the Perth fire offer a clue why; that they were covering more of Australia than concentrating on the floods? ![]() ![]() So actually it has come out of it quite well and managed to post a solid rating. It was well ahead of its nearest competition on digital in that timeslot- Gem's Friends was a distant 2nd with 109k. It's a shame we don't know how Ten News rated across the 6pm hour though to see how well the main channel held up. Given the average of around 750k across the two hours, I reckon at 5pm it was probably close to 1 million, then dipped to around 500k for the 2nd hour. |

I know news is popular in Australia but two hours is a bit much, an hour is long enough with both national and regional news.
The gap between Sunrise and Today is very small, I know Kochie and Mel are away but are the hosts of Today away? |

Maybe an OT question but in Oz there is Seven, Nine, Ten (and now 11) but whatever happened too One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six & Eight?

I would have thought they would cancel it.
PSB elements my .... The Biggest Loser is an awful way to loose weight, not at all healthy. meanwhile The Biggest Loser is really just daytime programming in a flash package, and sold to primetime. They deserve this flop, because after it airing apparntly unoticed in Daytime, the decesion came to move it to primetime 1) Did you watch it? 2) What would your reaction have been if it was shown on the BBC? |

The Biggest Loser is a bit of light factual fluff, along the same lines as, yes, Snog Marry Avoid. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but it seems pointless to try and argue it's in the slightest bit important. And given the regular argument about BBC1 is that it puts too much daytime stuff in primetime, this is an actual daytime programme. |
