Ratings 30th Jan 2011BBC1 (inc HD)
18:00 - Antiques Roadshow - 5.77m (24.3%) 19:00 - Countryfile - 6.78m (25.3%) 20:00 - Lark Rise To Candleford - 6.09m (20.6%) 21:00 - Terry Wogan’s Ireland - 4.34m (16.3%) Quote:
20:00 - Top Gear - 6.08m (20.6%)
Another strong rating for Top Gear. The move from Q4 to Q1 seems to have paid off. At least now it's able to stick in its 8pm slot and not move around some weeks to avoid shows like TXF or SPOTY.Quote:
ITV1 (inc HD) Dancing on Ice was down compared to last week which is a bit surprising given that the run-time was shorter and they had that "twist". Making the show more controversial by having such twists doesn't seem like a good move to me - I'm all for freshening the show up but when it comes to BB-style twists, I just don't think it works for this particular show (especially last night's twist). I think ITV, however, will be pretty pleased with how the series has been rating so far, as the first four weeks have been up 5% year-on-year which is at least an improvement and what they'd have been hoping for. Wild at Heart and That Sunday Night Show rated pretty similar to previous weeks. I actually think WaH is doing well to stay above the 7m mark considering the tough competition which has come in from BBC2 - last year, it often was rating in the 6's.18:30 - Dancing On Ice - 8.12m (30.1%) * tape checked - 18:29 - 20:26 * HD split - 7.51m/613k * +1 134,200 (0.47%) 20:30 - Wild At Heart - 7.08m (25.2%) * HD split - 6.72m/359k * +1 96,100 (0.4%) 21:30 - Dancing On Ice: The Skate Off - 7.26m (27.8%) * tape checked - 21:33 - 22:01 * HD split - 6.72m/542k * +1 97,200 (0.6%) 22:00 - That Sunday Show 3.1m (15.1%) * tape checked - 22:05 - 22:33 Quote:
BBC3 Great retention for Being Human - traditionally its ratings have fallen off quite a bit for episode 2 but last night's was only 0.2m down which is very little. Also a superb rating for Got To Dance - recent weeks it's been getting 0.6/0.7m so it's done well to build its audience to what I think is its best since the first night. I don't watch GTD but from the clips I've seen, it looks like a really well produced programme which I think could've also rated really well on terrestrial TV. 21:00 Being Human - 1.41m (5.4%) * HD Split was 1.2m (4.6%) SD, 205k (0.8%) HD * additional 187k (2.4%) on BBC3 + 2.5 at 23:30 * slot average - 700,000 (2.6%) Sky1 18:00 - Got To Dance - 953k (3.9%) Quote:
you can't really say that for certain, someone who only watched half the programe live and the other half on +1 channel would count as 2 different viewers
Cracking timeshift for the show, making it the most watched broadcast on C4 since Jade Goody's eviction on CBB5 in January 2007 (8.8m). There's a very real possibility that next week's official rating for BFGW could beat that and become the most watched programme on C4 since the BB 2004 final (9.0m) or even beat that , we'll see... |

Would be interesting to know if with half the costs being covered elsewhere whether it's actually more profitable for them this year despite the lower ratings. Quote:

What we will see is a shorter run BB with possibly more of a game show element( like in America).

No chance - he's already said he wants a longer run and isn't interested in producing a show which is in the shows interests at all - it's all about feeding the Daily Star and OK!

Actually I think the problem is that the fans are the only ones now watching Primeval; like Dr Who in the 1980s it's lost the "casual" non-fan audience and all that's now left is the hardcore.
There is always a risk with a show that once the casual viewer gives up, it becomes too inward looking and difficult for the casual fan to engage with again. BB became totally self indulgent near the end and I daresay there's a risk if it comes back, that only the hardcore will watch it. |

I think Dancing on Ice being up on last year just shows how poorly it performed last year rather than how well it's rating this year - I don't think it's reaching it's potential but then the 101 commercials they shove in can't help. I can't remember The X Factor being that bad ad-wise in the autumn.
BBC1 had a very good night. BTW, why have all the arguments about +1 started? There seemed to be no problem when Channel 4 got +1. |

Piers Morgan's first live show Friday, anchoring Egypt coverage, nets 658,000 viewers - his 2nd worst performance.
http://twitter.com/#!/scottcollinsLATPiers will be live once again tonight, amongst his guests former CNN heavy hitter Christiane Amanpour who is in Cairo. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0...ml?ref=twitter On another note will be interesting to see how SSN performs with all the transfer goings on, suspect if it was still on Freeview it would be figure close to 1m. |

I don't think ITV1 has much to worry about with DOI. 7-8 million is still good in such a competitive market and it doesn't seem to suffer from the mindless overkill in the papers that TXF has. It might trend older than TXF, but it's still a hit for ITV and I can see it running for a few more years.

DOI 2011's first four weeks aren't just up on last year but up on the overnight averages for the first four weeks of the 2006, 2007 and 2009 series too. Only the 2008 series has rated better for its first four weeks in the overnights (by about 0.4m), but due to increased timeshift these days, officially this year's is DOI's second best or even best first four weeks to a series ever.

Isn't it just the result show which is up though? Because I noticed earlier when compiling my weekly share report that the main show of DoI was down year-on-year.
Sunday 24th January 2010 8.95m Sunday 23rd January 2011 8.79m ![]() But yeah apart from the first week I think the performance shows have been about level with last year but the result shows seem higher. |

I almost feel embarrassed for mentioning it what with the rows on here but it would actually be slightly up with +1 included (about 0.2m in the overnights).

Sunday 24th January 2010 8.95m Sunday 23rd January 2011 8.79m According to stats I have, the y-o-y increases for the first 4 performance shows are +4% and first 4 results shows are +8%. So it looks like the results show have improved more than the performances. |

Quite a few impressive official figures today.
41,000 overnights > 102,000 officials. That's a 248% increase!! What is the record uplift? Can this be beaten? Amazing for a show that only got 1,000 viewers on BBC HD for its first episode overnights. |

Channel 5 are poised to formally announce the new presenting team for C5 News following the departure of Natasha Kaplinsky in December.
An embargo is in place until midnight, I will report here as soon as I hear anything. I'm really hoping Emma Crosby has joined. Rate her very highly. |
