Agree about Emma Crosby, impressive broadcaster who was badly underused at Sky and unfortunate to have such a short stint at GMTV.

In all seriousness it is interesting from a ratings point of view because everyone knows Five News at 7 is rating like crap at the moment. If they bring in someone reputable like Emma Crosby it could really help turn it around IMO. Not that Matt Barbet isn't, but he presents the (successful) 5pm bulletin as well so there is nothing to differentiate them.

The whole CNN Larry King/Piers Morgan thing got discussion here, so I don't see why this shouldn't. And if you don't find it interesting or "exciting" enough, may I politefully suggest you skip over my posts.

No offense, but I really don't believe anyone would switch to Five News simply because they have a slightly better presenter now.

I can see why Sky put her in the role they did due to her business background. She was good in that role as well but overall I agree it perhaps wasn't the best way to utilise her talents.

GMTV was interesting. I was expecting her to have a bigger impact than she did there. It was a big change of direction for her and I'm not sure she really fitted in all that well. It wasn't her fault, she just didn't suit that type of programme particularly well.

Since then she has freelanced for BBC News and other broadcasters and received universal praise for her style of presenting and interviewing, so a permanent gig (for ANY major UK broadcaster) would be well deserved.

Just YouTube Emma Crosby, I can now see why they'd hire her.

Channel 5's 5.00 bulletin I think does a good job, though I'd love to know who watches it as it's sandwiched between an elderly skewing film and Neighbours. I watch it because my family always has Eggheads on at 6.00. It probably gets the serious items out of the way first to catch the elderly film viewers and then puts in the lighter articles to catch the Neighbours audience.

Confirmed: Emma Crosby joins Channel 5 News

Quote:
“FORMER GMTV presenter Emma Crosby is to become the face of Channel 5 News, presenting her first bulletin on Valentine’s Day.

The 33-year-old, who has also worked at Sky and the BBC, will share presenting duties with award-winner Matt Barbet, who has been at the channel since 2007.

Emma will anchor the daily 7pm bulletin, while Matt will present the 5pm edition each weekday.

Last night, Emma said: “I am hugely excited about joining the team. From the outset, Channel 5 News has always enjoyed the reputation of offering viewers something a little bit different.

“Matt and I studied at university together so I’m looking forward to the reunion too.”

Matt said: “I’ve known Emma for years, and it’s excellent news that she is joining Channel 5 News at such an exciting time.

“The programme’s just been nominated for a Royal Television Society award, and the forthcoming rebrand means it will continue to be network television’s most groundbreaking news bulletin."”

Wow. Top Gear is a beast in the demographics. Not really surprised to see the male skew, but that a third of its audience is 16-34 is huge considering the sheer numbers watching in the first place.

Sounds like production on Two and a Half Men may be done for this season - it certainly seems like there won't be many more episodes. Deadline cover the "ripple effect" of Charlie Sheen's expected 3 month rehab stint.

I dont know it cant hurt to do 2 episdoes with the rest of the cast, send them on a hoilday somewhere, easier to add in new storylines and other characters. Got to be worth a shot.

In the long run however, CBS, cast and all involved are not going to be pleased.

CBS and WB wont cancel the show as it's still a hit and make tons of money in syndication but Charlie Sheen's contract finishes next season and makes me wonder whether CBS will make it the final season which would make sense as it would have reached 200 episodes plus CBS are planning to expand their comedy outputs so they could move Mike and Molly to 9pm and have new comedies.

next season is nice, but that suggests they will get to film it.

however after that, I would end the show, its very risky to give him a new contract for any amount of money.

EastEnders up a little week-on-week and very close to how Corrie rated last night. Silent Witness once again consistently rating at that 7m mark and easily winning the slot. This looks like becoming SW's most watched series in years. A series high for The Biggest Loser - with Silent Witness ending (and Outcasts replacing it next week which I don't think will rate as well as SW), there's an opportunity there for TBL to continue to grow its audience.

Very pleased for TBL. It definately seems to be edging up each week. Interestingly, its following the pattern of the US version, which tends to grow as the contestants dewindle and the competitiveness hots up. Hopefully it'll gain from no SW next week.

When does Waking The Dead start? I thought it would have made more sense to start that series as soon as Silent Witness finishes.

I wonder if SSN's figures will be affected much from Feb 24, when it's no longer a bonus channel?

Note: DS says Murder At 1600 got 1.9m but that's a typo as the share wouldn't match up (it would suggest nearly 35m were watching TV between 9pm and 11:10pm - very unlikely!).

The growth of TBL ratings might not be huge maybe 200k?

I think its been complementary scheduling to put something different against one of the BBC powerhouse dramas. Most ITV dramas would have lost out against SW anyway, so why waste your big hitters, unless you can beat the opposition with them?

Worth noting also that C5 have said they will stick with the present Sky News contract to produce 5 News until it expires at the end of 2012 - they had been inviting other companies to tender.
