Yes, presumably these Benidorm repeats are actually building up to something such as a new series. It would make sense to just keep it in that Saturday slot with the rapid repeat on ITV2 the next night.

Quick question Emmerdale was due to be an Hour tonight but got moved to Next Tuesday but what was the reason for an Hour-Long in the first place?

There's no Emmerdale episode next Wednesday because of International Football: Denmark v England airing on ITV1 from 7pm.

Is Security Men the Caroline Aherne sitcom pilot? I hope the pilot was good so it can get a series at some point as Aherne's other stuff has largely been really good.

Yeah, that's the one. It's written by her and Jeff Pope (Fattest Man in Britain, Christmas Lights etc). Filming for the pilot started today and continues for the next week or so. There will probably be a press release about it over the next few days...

Because it's 45 minutes long, it's more likely to air on a Saturday than a weeknight when 45 mins isn't a good length for the 9pm slot. So I'd guess they'll air the pilot after one of the BGT episodes, see the ratings and reaction and then decide whether or not to go ahead with a full series.

I remember reading an article where ITV's head of comedy said about launching sitcoms in a 45 minute slot after the big Saturday night shows. I guess this is the first example of this. Are they definitely going to air the pilot on it's own to get a public reaction or will they just watch it themselves and decide on it?

I'm not definitely sure but that seems to be the plan according to what one of the actors in it (Dean Andrews) has said on Twitter.

Looks likely then. Good way of doing it I think as it'll give them a full public opinion on it. Plus I suspect it was too expensive to produce a 45 minute scripted show and not air it.

Neighbours beat TEN Evening News in Melbourne & equalled it in Adelaide

CNN (and Piers Morgan) had a good Tuesday night as the channel continued it's extensive coverage of the crisis in Egypt.

CNN beat MSNBC in the demo from in every hour from 5pm to 12am ET. CNN was also number 2 each hour in total viewers between 5 and midnight with the exception of 8 and 9pm when O’Donnell and Maddow respectively were on MSNBC.

Piers had 922,000 total viewers and 327,000 in the demo.

Absolutely astounding for Big Fat Gypsy Wedding last night. Silent Witness performed strongly as normal. ITV1 actually did ok until 9pm and then the show which they thought would hold up the best at the start of the series simply collapsed.

I hope Security Men/Marriage Ref get the post Britain's Got Talent slot. They need to start using their big talent shows to boost new series rather than repeats or series that should have established themselves by now (though airing new series of established shows in that slot is better than airing repeats).

I think BBC1 will beat ITV1 tonight. EastEnders will anchor the schedule and should give Waterloo Road a good lead in. I think that'll rate in the low 5ms whereas Midsomer Murders will rate just below 5m.

I think the comedy pilots and Mamma Mia! will get the post BGT slot, Mamma Mia! would do well on its own if scheduled say on a Sunday Night at 8pm, it's 109 minutes so it could easily be shown in a two hour slot especially as the credits are shortered for television.

Midsomer should do well tonight as it's been heavily promoted.

Blue Bloods did really well to retain all of the Biggest Loser lead in, the news is still doing terribly for Ten.

Neighbours is flourishing on Eleven, wonder how it would be doing had Ten left it at 6.30.

Out of interest, how are the morning shows doing as most are in Cairns due to the tropical storm.

Last years lowest rating was 385,000 this is the first episode to top that 397,000 (to be exact)

I bet TEN is pancing, seeing Neighbours so close to beating Ten News, whatever has changed for Neighbours seems to have worked, I wonder if viewers saw the publcity, gave it a chance, and found what they liked.

Amazing to think that a move to a 2nd channel has turned out to so well, I didnt expect ratings to be anywhere near this good.

Of course its fair to point out that based on ratings alone, Neighbours is still down year on year.

The significant thing about last night's Neighbours rating is that it has now outrated its lowest episode on Ten. (It once fell as low as 390k at its lowest ebb last year)

It really is doing brilliantly for where it is. It may well set a new record for digital soon - I believe the current is held by The Big Bang Theory at around 0.42-0.45m.

Blue Bloods did very well, following on from the very strong showing by Hawaii Five-O on Sunday/Monday. Looks like Ten's new schedule is a strong one if you strip out the underperforming 6pm hour.

They say they are in for the long haul, but we'll see. It must be expensive to provide a local news bulletin at 6.30 that is rating lower than Neighbours would on an average night.

Dancc is right about TEN News that rating is no better than what Neighborus would have gotten if it was on.

No surprise to see Neighbours beat the news in Melbourne. If it was going to do it in any of the markets, it would be that one. Melbourne viewers have always been loyal to Neighbours.

I think the problem is while news rates well, viewers already have their fix with Seven or Nine News at 6pm followed by Today Tonight/A Current Affair at 6.30pm and Ten providing two and a half hours worth of news isn't going to change that especially as the news isn't exactly to change 90 minutes later.

Bit of a shocker. I can't believe the night before the show aired, I was predicting 150,000 for Neighbours at a push.

Now that the publicity from the move has died down, it's still growing and growing. Surely 500,000 during Winter is now a real possibility?

Gap down to just 16,000 now then. Yikes.
If this is mid-summer ratings over there, then it could well edge up some more come June/July time.

Anderson Cooper did well in the 25-54 demo but I'm surprised his total number isn't higher, tbh. This is his kind of thing and he's doing his show from Egypt just know. He might get a boost tonight - he and his crew were "roughed up" by protestors and it's had a lot of coverage today. He's on Parker Spitzer at 8pm to talk about it.

MSNBC looks like it's down without Olbermann - O'Donnell down a bit from Olbermann at 8pm, Ed Show down a bit from O'Donnell at 10pm - but it's nothing too significant for now. Piers must be disappointed that they didn't move Maddow to 8pm - looks like she's MSNBC's top anchor now.

O'Reilly really is a beast - add up CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and HLN at 8pm and you still end up 1m behind.

At the weekends the changes have been a bigger disaster, because they dropped the regular Ten News at Five bulletin (which rates well) in favour of the Ten Evening News at 6 instead where it gets walloped by Seven and Nine.

Although 2.5 hrs of continuous news and current affairs seems like a lot on weekdays, the thinking behind Ten's strategy is that people come home from work at different times and they want to target as many of these as possible. But I agree with you that it's going to be very hard for Ten to break people's life-long habits at 6pm and make any real impact with their new programmes.
