A bit of both - I arrived late to the gig (the Marquee when in was on Charing Cross Road) and there were a bunch of scuffy herberts I assumed to be the support act on stage playing very average shambling indie guitar pop... 2 songs in I recognised "You've Got The Power" and realised they were Win themselves! Yes, far from the shiny ultrapop of the records, it was far closer to the sound of Davey Henderson's earlier Fire Engines... still love the records though!

That Cupid & Psyche album was truly fantastic.

I personally preferred the other version of Duel - Jewel

The story goes that when Scritti's first album ("Songs To Remember") came out in 1982, Green Gartside went around the London record shops, making sure it was being well-promoted, and picking up copies of other albums out at the same time. One of these was "Thriller", which he listened to and took to his record label boss, saying, "Now that's what I want the next album to sound like!"

Rough Trade couldn't afford the proposed studio fees, so Green went to Virgin instead, and the wonderful C&P was the result...

Some excellent tracks there, Mike. Not heard any of them before, but most of 'em could have been UK hits if they'd been a bit luckier or had the right backing from record companies.

I think New Muzik got into the charts with another song; "living by numbers" (or certainly got some airplay at the time) - their albums were good, too, if I recall.

Mandy Winter should indeed by checked out by any fans of early Kate Bush.

Sal Solo and Classix Nouveau never really did it for me - they seemed a bit too derivative for my liking, but maybe I'll check out some of their stuff again. Thank God for YouTube!

unfortunately they recorded for GTO and after the company was taken over by CBS, they weren't given much promotion.
I have these songs on their only US released LP.

Mandy Winter was german, that was her biggest success and after a few other releases on EMI & CBS she went back to hairdressing!

Moti Special included Michael Cretu (who later recorded gregorian chants as Enigma).
