And anyone who does this will be so very much appreciated when you really do not have to do it at all.

Here are several more that I have remembered.

Bellamy Brother-"More Of You"

Exile-"I Can't Get Close Enough"

Marie Osmond-"No Stopping Your Heart"

Crystal Gayle-"The Sound Of Goodbye", "Straight To The Heart", and "Making Up For Loss Time"

Anne Murray-"Time Don't Run Out On Me" and "Now And Forever"

Dolly Parton-"But You Know I Love You", "Real Love", "Think About Love" and "Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That?"

Kenny Rogers-"Love Will Turn You Around", "We've Got Tonight", "Morning Desire", and "Twenty Years Ago"

Steve Wariner-"All Roads Lead To You", "Your Memory", "Midnight Fire", "Why Goodbye", "Some Fools Never Learn", "You Can Dream Of Me", "Life's Highway", "The Weekend", and "Hold On"

Willie Nelson-"The Highway Man" and "Pancho And Lefty"

God bless you and them always!!!

Holly

P.S. Merle Haggard-"That's The Way Love Goes" (May he rest in peace.)

classic can mean 'old'... as per the link i posted. kindly stfu, your opinion has been noted, it will make no difference, you are just spouting crap for the sake of it.

(Of course a first pressing would remain rare). Bands and artists do 'private pressings' even of LPs, to sell at concerts etc. Sometimes people would only press a couple of hundred of an album which seems bizarre considering the work put into writing and recording it. This is the stuff of 'rare'. If a record is rare, generally it will be expensive to buy now.

A record won't be rare because it didn't chart. Loads could have been pressed up and remained unsold at the time.

What we're dealing with here is not widely heard - and probably nowadays. Like I said there's no point in nit-picking too much over people's selections. The most recent page of the 'rare sixties' thread has a heap of Marvin Gaye tracks that are well known.

I doubt there'd be many people who've lived a few decades who won't have heard "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for example. That is anything but uncommon.

Regarding the ''sweet beautiful precious''... throw that in a search engine. You might be surprised.”

what are you waffling on about now?... i gave you the dictionary definition of 'rare' that covers, explains and includes the tracks submitted.

seriously, have you two got nothing better to do then pointlessly bicker over the wording of a thread thats SIX AND A HALF years old?... jeez... get a life!

Maybe you need to apologise Mr Mushy, its pretty common to see you troll people within the music threads- your opinion isn't gospel...?

This is a very valid point. If, like me, you are a fan of a specific genre and have spent most of your life listening to specialist radio and being in and around the scene, there are many songs that would be hugely well known to us but almost unknown outside of the circles.
I know I've been out with friends who aren't from our scene and been really shocked when a song I've heard 100's of times comes on and they don't seem to have ever heard it before.

It was only about a year ago that I realised The Only Way Is Up was a cover. We had the radio on at work and he was just about to play Yazz when he said "Did you know this was a cover originally by Otis Clay" and he played about 10 seconds of it.

Two of my favourite very rare 80s songs one which almost made the top 40 and were big hits in their native countries.

One 2 Many - Downtown reached #43 on re-issue in 1989

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rbMt2-U7TU

and this solo US hit for Ric Ocasek which just missed the top 75 here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVXy7AsjvL4

Oh one more that did go Top 40. You just cant get this anywhere!!

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie - The Rattler

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDe3fngwIXk”

I remember when The Rattler came out. I recorded it off the Top 40 but it only got to about 30 something. I'm pretty sure it was about the same time Depeche Mode released a live version of Everything Counts. I'm sure it was on the same cassette.

I was explaining what sort of things make a record actually rare. How people are equating 'rare' with little mainstream airplay and pointing out that although you are pulling up other people for posting music that isn't rare, that there is exactly the same thing going on on your sixties thread. (What I wrote should be all quite easy to comprehend I think).

Re: your dictionary definition; I recall giving a dictionary definition before re: 'iconic' and you ignored it because you wanted to waffle on in your own obtuse way. Also I recall stating on a thread the ways I (i.e. pertaining to my own experience, not yours - a personal thing) discovered music and you said it was nonsense (despite it being an accurate summary of how I go about it).

No one on this board call help what you don't know and don't want to know.

You certainly don't have the right to call jackol an ar-e or to tell him/her to shut the f--- up.

That background music that starts at 28 seconds reminds me of another 80s song. It'll come to me.

BTW I like that Cheryl Glasgow track.

Here's a bit of German indie for you from '84. You might know it.
Xmal Deutschland - Mondlicht
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_1FHvLxeA4

Here's one that did get in the chart but seems to have been forgotten
Susan Fassbender - Twilight Café
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfGHOkPERsY

Whatever people's definition of 'rare' it's good to either introduce them to 'new' (you know what I mean) music or records they haven't heard for 30 odd years.

I do. The singer Anja Huwe is a fine artist now and has her own web site. I actually went to see them live at the Lyceum on the Strand in London in 1983. I have their first couple of LPs and a few singles.

Yep. I think it would be better to have more threads recommending and asking about music, than arguments about it.

I rated her voice and that track highly. I discovered that she's been performing with a member of Def Leppard recently:

i have nothing to apologise for... i dont deliberately set out to 'troll people' , but there are some whos opinion i dont agree with and as this is a forum for discussion, having a different opinion is what the forums for.

didnt say my opinion was gospel, i provided links to support my pov.

yeah... thinking on.... how come you arent knocking this thread for the use of the word 'classic'? theres plenty of nominations for rare 80's classics on this thread that are as unheard of as many on the 60's thread.

Great thread this and I like the 60's one as well.
Just get back to posting good tunes and stop worrying about semantics.

the eurythmics were huge in the 80's... but their first release 'never gonna cry again' was a 'miss' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KLruiHP8U8 - pity its my fav eurythmics track

teardrop explodes had brief success, we all know 'reward' and a few others but like the eurythmics their first release was a miss but imho a great track that deserved higher chart placing - when i dream - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KLruiHP8U8

pete wylies famous 'wah' brand scored a huge hit with 'story of the blues', but imho as 'wah heat' - 'better scream' (1981) was by far the best thing he ever released - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDL010AUCt8

prior to 'dont you want me' the human league released a string of tracks with mixed fortunes
'sound of the crowd' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ECu-JzaVLY
'being boiled' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NStTkSRQw (charted on rerelease)
'empire state human' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0YVOIKX0IQ

I didn't hear Never Gonna Cry Again when released in 1981. However, it has gone on to be my 2nd favourite song of theirs, Who's That Gril? being the only one I prefer. I like several others too.

I should get a life? You're the one telling people that they are posting tracks that aren't rare, whilst doing exactly the same on your beloved sixties thread.
