Dog isn't eating

Hi...this the first time i've posted in the Pets forum (usually in GD)
Wondered if any of you could give advice on a 16year old English bull terrier cross with a staffordshire bull terrier. (The dog is my dad's partners dog)
In the last three weeks, she has stopped eating her food and had a horrible cough. Which my dad took her to the vet, who said she has emphysema (don't think thats how you spell it, sorry) and has given her a course of antibiotics, which has helped clear it up. The vet said thats she's in good health and is probably being fussy over food.
That was a week ago, we've tried other dog meats with/without dog biscuit, we're currently giving her cooked chicken and rice, which she is only eating not even a quarter of her bowl. She won't eat food if we give it to her, unless we encourage her and she seems to only fill herself up by drinking lots of water. The vet wants to see her at the end of this week (the end of antibiotics). She has lost alot of weight and is obvious to see.
Is there any thing we can try her with, to get her to eat properly again??
I am aware to expect the worse because of her age. But for me it reminds me when my old dog got put down 6 years ago around this time, with simillar problems and i don't think i can bring myself to go through it again.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any advice x

Hi

I'm so sorry to hear that you dog is poorly. It's an awful time when your pal is ill, you feel totally helpless.
I don't have any answers for you just thought I'd come on and say, hope things turn out well and she recovers.

Worth giving the vet a call to see what they say, especially if she is drinking excessively as that can be a symptom of a number of illnesses.

But, it could be that the ABs are making her feel poorly. Have you tried some natural pro-biotic/live yogurt?

You can also get a paste called 'Nurish-yum' (or something like that) which is a high calorie supplement.

Hope she is feeling better soon
