my nan was on the bus once, the driver got off, a man said to my nan "I am just popping in that shop, if the driver comes back tell him to wait for me", my nan told the driver this when he got back on, the driver then walked down the aisle and asked everyone on the bus "would anyone else like to do any shopping?"

We have this in London, a request stop is red, and has REQUEST on it, the others are white, and I think just say bus stop.
All buses stopped at the white one whether people wanted to get on or off or not.
I hadn't been on a bus for years, then one day it materialised that it would be the easiest way to get to where I needed to go.
I found a bus stop, (white one), stood there, then a bus approached and I moved closer to the kerb only to see it sail straight on.
I asked a few others at the place where I was headed, (when I got there), all more experienced at bus travel than I, and was asked, "Have you been living in a cave?, no bus will stop at regular stops, unless someone hails it, or rings the bell, the drivers make the rules now, not the bus company.
