Why is a British publicily funded channel making a programme to help decide if to live abroad?

Maybe they should turn it on it's head and assist people from Eastern Europe, Vietnam or Somalia thinking of living in Britain.
I think all these people already get loads of assistance as soon as they turn up here!!!

I think you have your wires crossed. There was a Muslim family who wanted to find a social community with a religious community too so they could bring up their family within their religious values.
Couldn't have been further from avoidance.

Everyday they take them to a house/ houses that are Waaaaay to expensive for them .

why ?

its easy to look on the web and see house prices b4 going out and realise its cost of living is waaayyy higher than they can afford.

Programme is a waste of money.

Everyday, High house price , lower wage , granny cries = cant / wont move.

The family made it on today's one.
Its probably best keeping the house to rent.
As least then if they wanted to come back they still have a home.

I think they do a comparison about what's on budget, what's perhaps achievable if they both work or the salaries are better and what could be a dream home. Perhaps they think that makes for better property porn for the viewer or something?
What gets me is that they often send people with lower budgets over to the most expensive areas.

I liked the catch up yesterday, I remembered the Welsh family whose father was a tree surgeon. They did ok.

Today's was a strange one with most of the family set to leave and then the older son's girlfriend getting pregnant - he was one of the family members most keen to leave.

I am surprised to see today's family move out there with no home, no jobs and not much in savings.. Rather them than me, that's for sure!

I agree with you, I was surprised too, don't think I could cope with that much uncertainty, especially with children involved.

I was hoping at the end there might be more of an update about them.

Yes, me too! I would be interested to see if today's lot did actually get there. I find it a bit annoying when they start saying 'things like nothing left for me here', that must be a bit upsetting for the family and friends that remain. Sometimes it would be good to remember the grass is not always greener, just maybe a different flavour!

Ha ha, glad it's not just me.

Suspecting that I am really just jealous and got more and more irritated as things fell into place for them.

It would be nice to see a family that decided the UK wasn't such a dire place after all!

Yes, there is that too. I think smug is the word to describe them. I feel much better now.

If Martin Roberts walked into my local pub he wouldn't last 5 minutes.

I hadn't seen the original programme for this one, but there was something that just didn't add up or sit right to me.
They organised their own place to stay and by the time of the follow up had sold their home (for around £60,000 more than the valuations at the time on the show) and their business and already been out there for a year.

Despite being told that he needed further qualifications before he could practise in Australia, he landed his world-wide dream job and was a senior university lecturer (so obviously not a lot needed in the way of qualifications there then)

All seemed very strange to me.

I felt the same.

It was amazing how everything fell into place so well for them.
