Morning, anyone watching? Darwin today with a couple who are expecting their first baby.

Glad you got your heating fixed BG.

PS fizzler, they didn't really update, it was a strange one.
Thank You. I thought it was just me going mad that they never updated ......... I wanted to know what they ended up doing.

Is it not revisited anymore and just the old stuff?

They didn't go to Australia because she was very close to her family but I think he still would like to go. The stronger her ties become to her family, the less likely it is that they will go.

I saw these two last year, I hope it's an update and not just a repeat..... I remember not taking much of a shine to Fred.

Shame.

Fred seemed a bit of a freeloader, the other bloke owned the house and made all the money.

Is there a huge shortage of 'plastic' flower arrangers in Australia?

I always wonder with the vastness of the country, why they build houses so close together and have tiny little back yards?

That's the second one that was just a repeat.
(Angela, I think we're at cross purposes about which episode didn't have an end update)
There was no '1 or 2 years later, where are they now?' ending.

Fizzler, I do wonder the same.
Most people seem to imagine the houses and gardens will be bigger and cheaper and they're not.

The buildings don't look expensive to construct, far from it, so perhaps they're all closely nestled together because of the cost of installing services and utilities?

I'd struggle as I like the style of home we have here and to emigrate to a hotter climate we'd have to completely forget that and adapt to the type of properties that you get there - often single storey, very open plan and stud partitions instead of solid internal walls.

I wonder what happened to the couple from Port Sunlight?

Morning

I remember the lady and her son on today's show when it was first aired. She came across really nice and had a lovely son.

Seem to remember she ends up dying her hair blond I think

Be interested to see how it all panned out for her

Isn't this little boy lovely? He's so mature. Tough being the son of a depressive though. He carries too much responsibility.

I saw it and agreed with you all, the son was absolutely lovely.
I was so pleased that they went. It all seemed to pan out well, with a good job and a really nice home.
They're the kind of people who would seize the day and make the very best of all the opportunities.

I hadn't seen the programme when it first aired, so it was all very interesting.

Same could be said for parts of northern england,

I love all the aussie bashing on this thread, you can see people are brimming with jealousy at brits who end up happy over there. I've just come back from a 5 week holiday in Australia and I thought it was a fantastic country. Incredibley racially diverse, multicultural, nice weather, kids look happy, no cloggs of racial ghettos, low crime rate etc. And for those who call Australia racist, please answer despite having high non white immigration over the past 5 years why there is no far right party? Unlike countries in europe which are literally queuing up with them LOL.

Now thats not to say UK is bad country, far from it, infact its a great country also, thats why so many people want to move here too.

But I don't understand this 'lets knock Australia at every opportunity' this thread has become. Nobody said it was perfect, of course it's got lots of problems (every country does). But its a pretty nice country, low crime rate, low unemployment rate (5.1%, Britain is 8.5% and rising), children grow up happy etc. Melbourne and Sydney are consistantly ranked in the top 10 liveable cities in the world.

Would I immigrate there? I don't know, there's a lot more to immigrating to a country than to 'nice weather' (which I actually find is a ridiculous and shallow reason), I have to consider how much I'd miss family, miss my sport. I love coming home from a day at work and see the champions league/monday night football etc. I wont have that over there and that may depresses me after a while.

I could easily live in the UK for the rest of my life, that I have no problem with, but if I were to have an aussie girlfriend who I loved and ask me to move over, would I? Definitely. Life is all about your social life really. I could live in a place like Dubai if meant I was with a girlfriend I was so happy with.

And anyway just for those who doubt Australia, worlds most liveable cities according to the economist:

1. Melbourne
2. Vienna
3. Vancouver
4. Toronto
5. Calgary
6. Sydney
7. Helsinki
8. Perth
9. Adelaide

10. Auckland

http://www.economist.com/blogs/gulli...bility-ranking

Wow isn't a shame that places like Stoke, Hull, Middlesborough, Sunderland, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Leicester, Blackburn et al didn't make that list.

Like I say I'm not going to knock the UK, because I think it's a great country, but if people want to try to go to Australia, fair play to them go for it, there's a lot of good stuff over there. They might be dissappointed but they wont know unless they try, so thats what this program is about.

Thomas, I think you've taken one comment and perceived the whole thread as Aussie bashing

I haven't studied the thread in detail but have taken part in it and from my own point of view the negativity is mostly aimed at the over dramatic presentation of the programme and also at people who seem to think they'll depart the UK and arrive in a country they seem to know little about (other than long held 'dreams' of living there) and they think they're going to earn more, have more disposable income, all for far less working hours or pressure and that they're going to get big detached, smart houses with a pool and a sea view for buttons.

The last programme I saw was a catch up of one I hadn't seen before and it was a total joy.
It was the story of the Larner family who were investigating Perth. They really seemed to have their feet on the ground and weighed up all the pros and cons sensibly but with a great sense of humour.

Not sure what thread you were reading Thomas007 but this one isn't "bashing Australia", it's being critical of the programme itself being too samey and not giving enough decent follow up to find out what happens to the people who they originally show.

I just watched the revisited one with the Fox family and it was absolutely wonderful to see such a success story. I loved how they introduced their little surprise.
It was also great how they went back the following year and then again two years later.

Speaking as the person who opened the thread it was never my intention to "bash" Australia..more to be honest to "bash" the style of hosting by Nicki Chapman...As I said in the opening post I cant bear the way she waves and talks with her hands all the time. and is so smarmy.

... and another set of repeats. Caught the last 30 mins of today's, and yet another deluded working class family thinking they can up sticks and move to affluent area in Australia. Cue the shock when they realise the property and mortgage costs, and how low their own UK property would sell for.

But they found enough excuses to vote for Australia in the end despite the higher cost of living. I got the feeling the husband was pushing for the Oz move despite having a good business back home.

Dont think wifey was convinced at the end though.

Everytime I see shows like this, I keep thinking, why cant you just move to the coast over here in the UK? OK the weather isnt quite as good as the Oz but the house prices are definitely cheaper and its a lot closer to home. I'm sure most brits prefer a hot/cold climate compared to hot and humid like in Oz.

Its not quite the same when you go over on your holiday compared to living there when you discover a whole new set of problems.
