Just bumping this thread to say that Wanted Down Under is back for a new series.

Series 11 started yesterday (2nd Jan) on BBC1 @ 11am

BBC page

I can't believe this Series has been on since 2007. The last 10 years have flown by!

Interestingly enough, there's another similar type of show which is starting on C5 today.

If like me you enjoy this programme you MUST go to the BBC website and read the follow-up to each programme...often the outcome can be very different to what we see at the end of the programme!!! Mind you why the can't do this as a voice over by Nikki Chapman as the credits roll surprised me!!!

i really enjoy the format of this show the one thing that ruins it for me is the host...

She really bugs me with her earnest looks to camera and constant talking with her hands..why cant she just talk without trying to convey so much emotion in every word..and hand gesture.

please auntie beeb find a new presenter.
I cant stand the show, too many selfish people on there guilt tripping their family to move abroad.

I know what you mean and you see both sides of the guilt trip coin of it on that program when the family has to watch videos of Granny crying and the kids school mates begging them not to go.

I struggle to see any houses that appeal to me on there, the coasts and city centres look great but the suburbs do look all samey and bland - all look like Ramsay St!

Australia isn't the place to move to that it used to be, I knew a few people that went and came back because the cost of living has soared too much there.

The size of the spiders in Australia is a good enough reason for me not to want to move there.

I stopped watching it because of all that. It always seemed to be one parent who had their heart set on going, no matter what the cost to the family. It really annoyed me when they would say stuff like "there's nothing for us here" or "my kids have no future in the UK". No future? You'd be hard pressed to find a country with better prospects.

The size of the spiders in Australia is a good enough reason for me not to want to move there.
I saw one where they were looking at moving to Darwin. The mum made a big thing about the kids being outdoors all the time and playing in the sea, but once they got there, they were told that the box jellyfish made it too risky to go in sea most of the year.
There was a stagnant looking lido just inshore though.

I felt a bit sorry for them really, the daughter seemed like a mini-adult, and I think the mum was just desperate to leave the situation she was in. I think they were a bit exploited by the programme makers.

The other thing I find hilarious is the cost of living shopping bit - oh no sweet corn is 20p more per can. Surely if you move to a new country and climate you are bound to change some of what you eat - and also eat more local produce which might cost less

The other thing I hate about this show is when they look round the houses - and they don't like say the bathroom. It's portrayed as if the whole move could be in jeopardy because one house doesn't suit

Or guilt tripping them not to. It's hard to believe that the parents/grandparents who would normally want what's best for their kids/grandkids turn into possessive monsters saying they don't want them to go. I'm sure this is pure hype or perhaps portrayed differently by the BBC.

I don't know what Nicki Chapman brings to this programme? She could have done a voice-over by being back in England and watching the programme like everyone else.

If they insist on having her there, then they should get her to interview the people maybe when they're in the houses or after they've come back from a job interview?

And just to say the new houses in Australia are very nice and big and on one level and mainly cheaper then London prices anyway. However, I'm biased to liking the country and the houses as my wife and I should be moving there by the end of the year to be with my son and his fiancée.

Australia or NZ has zero attraction for me, I wonder why not Canada. I suppose it makes for good TV but always seems to be one partner trying to convince the other. I think a few years back a couple separated over it. I'd never have tried to convince my missus, if she wasn't open to the idea then I wouldn't have nearly twisted her arm. She wouldn't move to Wales, let alone the other side of the world.

Doesn't that presuppose that 'what's best' is living in Australia?
Going by this thread, not even both parents can agree that Australia is so great they want to move there.

I haven't actually seen this show since the older Sawalha (sp) Sister was fronting it.
After 2 or 3 episodes I just wanted to tell all the family's involved to F right off my TV screen for irritating me.

They are quite similar in a way though. Lots of sheep, vast tracts of inhospitable countryside and a cultural vacuum.

Did the bloke on this episode wind anyone else up? A brief visit does not make a reason to emigrate!, especially as his partner isn't as keen.

Sorry Prince Monalulu I didn't make it as clear as I should have. I meant the parents and friends on the tear jerking videos who try to dissuade the families who appear keen to go to improve their lives.

All in all, I agree with an earlier comment that it just seems to be a nice little holiday paid for by the BBC

This one has disaster written large. She's left all her family and friends to live on the other side of the world with a man-child.
