Today was "Wanted Down Under Revisited"
It consisted of a complete re run of the familys first program and finished with the family still now not having moved to Austrailia and at least a year away from actually making a move. I don't know why i watch it anymore! Only plus point for me is we get to see some other places besides Adelaide and Melbourne!! Cairns tomorrow... can't wait for that!

I've commented on pervious threads about this sham of a programme.
1)Yep- its sponsored by the Aussie Govt 2) I spend some of my childhood in Oz and believe me it aint that great. 3)Most people in Oz are "bogans"=chavs 4) if the Aussie Govt wants to show people the real Australia then they should show Muriels Wedding. Move to Oz and Muriels family are the norm. And what this progromme fails to tell you is that Australia has one of the biggest obesity problems in the world. 5) it makes me laff when the deluded fools on this programme say they want "more of the outside lifestyle". Not in 40c heat matey! Most kids spend their time in the house on their Xboxes during the summer! 6) Winters are a shock to the system especially if you move to Melbourne or Adelaide. And the houses aren't built for the cold. And it rains more in Sydney than it does in the UK< FACT! 7)No long summer evenings in OZ. its dark by 6pm so forget about BBQs inthe evening. You'd get eaten alive by all the mozzies too. 8)The education system in the UK is superior to that in Oz believe or not. Want better and you have to pay for it. Finally lets destroy the myth of "The Australian Dream". Most Aussies work bloody hard and most live in endless suburbia far away from the sea. Food is a lot more expensive and choice is limited. All Australian children grow up with a sense that the rest of the world is carrying on without them, hence why so many of them move to Europe for history, culture and a bit of "edginess". The people on this programme are greedy and just want something for nothing. I can't stand the attitude of the selfish parents who can't understand why their teenage children don't want to move 9000 miles across the globe. |

Maybe, just maybe (conspiracy theory coming here) it's sponsored by a UK government agency and the subliminal message is that it's better here than you thought
I think they did mention temperature yesterday, saying it had been in the 40°s!The odd thing I find is the overly dramatic script and presentation - if they move this could ruin them ![]() Each day we get

Relatives and friends who rely on them as much as the air they breathe
A family member who doesn't want to go
Much higher cost of living than anticipated
Cash problems: less equity to take with them from their own home and higher property prices overseas than they expected
Not liking the properties they've been told they *can* afford
A question mark over work and working hours
After we've heard this fairly depressing tale of a dream destroyed, guess where they choose they want to live? I wonder how many people do actually get their Visas and go (and stay) We think we live in a crap country because we are constantly being told we are. It's only when you have lived abroad you realise that this is a great country fullstop. The Australian media is one of the most heavily censored in the world. As a new country they are desperate to have some of kind of credibility in worlds affairs so everything shoddy is covered up. Thats why Aussies think they live in the best country in the world - it because they are constantly TOLD that by the media and the govt. |

Sorry, can't agree about Nikki! Those hand gestures really annoy me, and the sugary sweet voice - so OTT!

My sister has been there for 5 years and says pretty much everything you have said. They are encouragng brits out there for their skills and money and in return it's not as great as they make out. |

What makes me smile in this programme is when they find a house they actually would like to buy ... they don't seem to realise that they have not even started to apply for a visa or even found out if they would be legible to apply for a visa.
I read somewhere that it can take up to a year for a visa application to go through and I doubt very much the house vendor will wait that long for some Brits to come up with the money!!!! The other day a painter and decorator seemed to think he had the skills they are so desperate for down under .. I can understand they want doctors, nurses and teachers etc but painter/decorators???? I really do believe you cant move your family to the otherside of the world on a budget .. you need a nice little nest egg behind you to cover unexpected emergencies like expensive house or car repairs, but they never mention this!!! However .. I do enjoy the programme especially seeing the new build open plan houses over looking the ocean they are really stunning

Wonder if any of the Queensland homes that have been on this show are still there after the recent floods?

I lived in Oz for 9 years when all my family emigrated, but as soon as I was old enough and had saved enough money I got the hell out there and it was the best thing I ever did. Like most migrants we couldn't afford to live near the coast or city so ended up in the middle of nowhere. The isolation, long working and travel hours, cost of living, coping with the heat, the redneck locals and level of multi-culturalism added to the sense of displacement. As for the 'wonderful weather' after enduring unbearable heat, cyclones, bushfires, floods and earthquakes coping with a bit of wind and rain in the UK is nothing. Unless you are VERY wealthy, don't need a mortgage or even a job, you are in for one hell of a shock if you emigrate there. I have lived in other countries since and Australia is the only place I would never live in again. My neices and nephews who have grown up there are now coming over to the UK as even they can't stand it and feel they are missing out. I wish they would make a TV program that tells about the harsh reality of making such a drastic move.

This programme, although nice to watch because of the scenery in Australia, does seem to lack some credibility.
Surely in this day and age, with the internet and other resources available, there is no reason for anyone to be unaware of what to expect if thinking of emigrating. The types of houses available, job market, exchange rate and lifestyle can all be easily investigated - however virtually every day, many aspects of this seem to come as a complete shock to those on the show. Either these people are very naive, or just looking for a good excuse for a week away |

What always surprises me is the people featured on these show seem to have done no homework at all
They dont know the climate the dont know the cost of living or house prices or job prospects they seem to base their decision on neighbours or home and away? Its a bit like peoples views of the USA they think everyone is slim, good looking and rich if they had actually been there they would realise that most americans are huge and poor I cant believe that people actually think what they see on TV is real |

Do any of the latest episodes tell you whether the people moved or not? None of the ones I've seen (against my will
) gave any indication about whether they moved or not. I suspect many do just go on the show for an all expenses paid holiday to Australia.

I did laugh a few weeks ago when they took a family to meet another British family to see how they were getting on and they were all packed to come back to the UK as it wasn't as great as they thought it would be.
My sister moved to Melbourne to start a new life, she lasted 3 years and hated it. |

I like to watch to see if people follow their dream, If you don't try you may regret it. Though its not for everyone.
My sister been out in Perth for over 40 years. We should have gone when our kids were young, to late now . Been for holiday twice really enjoyed the life style. ![]()

surprise surprise. Today's family decide to come back after a year because they miss their network of friends.
Do these people do no research at all before making such a big move in their life? |
