OMG, The Bristows win the award for the most infuriating WDU episode ever!!! What they put their family and most of all their children through!?? And sorry, one of the reasons they came home was coz dad decided he'd have to work hard to get what he already had in the UK, (he thinks that shouldn't be the case?? ), yet they had said they'd been thinking of what was best for their children, not themselves!?

Then they went back over AGAIN??? Pair of idiots - harsh but true!!!

I was watching with my head in my hands!

Within a year he wants a six-bedroomed house with pool, car and own business - might take a bit longer than that.

Oh dear. Todays episode a classic case of -

An undesirable tribe known as ping pong poms=constantly striving for perfection=never happy and continually dragging their kids back and forth the globe.

Selfish and thick to boot. Australia's loss, Englands gain.

I've commented on pervious threads about this sham of a programme.

1)Yep- its sponsored by the Aussie Govt
2) I spend some of my childhood in Oz and believe me it aint that great.
3)Most people in Oz are "bogans"=chavs
4) if the Aussie Govt wants to show people the real Australia then they should show Muriels Wedding. Move to Oz and Muriels family are the norm. And what this progromme fails to tell you is that Australia has one of the biggest obesity problems in the world.
5) it makes me laff when the deluded fools on this programme say they want "more of the outside lifestyle".
Not in 40c heat matey! Most kids spend their time in the house on their Xboxes during the summer!
6) Winters are a shock to the system especially if you move to Melbourne or Adelaide. And the houses aren't built for the cold. And it rains more in Sydney than it does in the UK< FACT!
7)No long summer evenings in OZ. its dark by 6pm so forget about BBQs inthe evening. You'd get eaten alive by all the mozzies too.
8)The education system in the UK is superior to that in Oz believe or not. Want better and you have to pay for it.

Finally lets destroy the myth of "The Australian Dream". Most Aussies work bloody hard and most live in endless suburbia far away from the sea. Food is a lot more expensive and choice is limited.

All Australian children grow up with a sense that the rest of the world is carrying on without them, hence why so many of them move to Europe for history, culture and a bit of "edginess".

The people on this programme are greedy and just want something for nothing. I can't stand the attitude of the selfish parents who can't understand why their teenage children don't want to move 9000 miles across the globe.
i think you summed it up perfectly. notice how there are adverts on tv advertising visiting Australia at this time of year? is it because it's winter here and the pull of going somewhere in the warm is slightly more appealing? in the U.S Oprah winfrey made a show Down Under to appeal to more Americans to visit the country, possibly sponsered by the australian government. the only true disadvantage that puts soo many people off visiting is that it is to far away and consists of a very long flight. the fact is there are warmer countries close to both the UK & the US that don't involve such long and expensive travel.

I wanted to strangle a bloke on there a few weeks ago, his wife didn't want to go at all but it was her job as a nurse that would get them there, he was a right control freak, she would have had to work every hour God sends to support them all.

The woman today really reminded me of Catherine Tate.

I sat opened mouthed at their idiot decisions.

I attended a few 'Pommie get-togethers' in pubs whilst living in Oz and they always went the same way: For the first hour everyone talks about how wonderful their new life is, how they would NEVER go home and of course how fabulous the weather is. The second hour, and a few drinks later - men and women go into groups and the truth starts. Women: 'I miss all my family, my friends, I don't know anyone here, it's too bloody hot, I'd go home tomorrow but HE loves it so we have to stay'. Men: 'I miss my footie team, a decent pint in a proper pub and being able to get away from the missus now and again, but the KIDS love it, so we have to stay'. Meanwhile the kids who are now teenagers are grouped together planning their escape to Europe, but of course that will break mum and dad's heart because they love it here. Why can't families just be honest with each other. Saw more divorces there than here.

I very rarely watch this programme any more but happened to be skipping through this morning and it was the Larner family who I remember seeing first time round - the coincidence was so great that I had to watch the whole programme! I'm glad I did because they are a lovely family who just want the best life for their kids. I even got a bit emotional at one point. Good luck to them.

Wow, I'm gobsmacked by today's episode.

Is the mother's desire to live in another country really so great that it's worth destroying her family? I'm open-mouthed at her selfishness. Just unbelievable.

I accept that there may have been tensions in the family behind the scenes that weren't mentioned in the programme, but even so, she's lost a daughter as a result of her actions.

She was determined, she didn't give a toss about what anyone else wanted, she had made up her mind before they even went.... It was only ever about her.

as someone said above, there may well have been some tension behind the scenes which we were not told about. But given what we were actually told on today's show, i think she did appear very selfish and that selfishness broke her family apart.

Oh well. Glad its not me.

There must have been some tension, but to drag the daughter to the other side of the world half way through her exams is beyond selfishness, she didn't seem to give two hoots when the daughter said she couldn't cope with an exam as it was completely different to what she had been learning in the UK and left early, what sort of woman who claims she only wanted a better life for children would do that?

indeed. that is beyond stupid and whatever the full story behind the scenes, the wrong decision for her daughter. It was all about the mother and no one else.

Surely you need to differentiate between people who move with their companies to Australia/New Zealand or the Sad F..k's who appear on this show who appear clueless and witless about a move to a different country.

If this is the type of people the Aussie Govmnt wants as a result of their sponsoring this show then they can have them

Their loss, our gain.

Well yes, this thread is about this programme and not people who move with their companies isn't it?.

Sadly I turned over and only caught the last few minutes. Did the Dad not want to go so she went to NZ with her daughter or did the separation/divorce happen before she made the decision? I don't know what happened but I thought it was a bit unkind when her famiy said twice 'hopefully she'll meet someone who will treat her well', almost a blight against her ex-hubby. I could be reading too much into that though.

Ii found todays show very odd...i think there were indeed other reasons as to why the family didnt all go as one.

Was the mother recovering from cancer? i only ask as her hair looked like it was only just growing back.

Maybe if she was this was the driving force for wanting to start a new life and live everyday for what she wanted to do.

I'm not sure i could have gone ahead tho if it meant leaving behind a daughter tho.

On topic of the thread...I still cant stand Nicki Chapman.
