That man can clearly walk all over his wife who has admitted several times she doesn't have much confidence!!! There he is, child and wife in tears... selfish, selfish man!!!!
Too right - from the off it was clear he was a wrong'n, as he'd already sold the family house to raise the collateral to enter Australia before they'd even visited

Exactly, and seeing him still trying to talk round his distraught little girl as she cried was just awful!! Oh and looks like it's pretty much worked - so he gets his way!!

Nicky's "wringing" hands when she presents is starting to grate on me.

Cant she just stand and talk?

I really fear for his wife. She seemed lovely. She will struggle big time over there.

He was an arrogant pig. To expect his daughter and Grandsons to move over later ??????? It'll never happen mate.Your business will fail, you'll be living in one of those shacks and your wife will be desperately unhappy.

You will be trapped because you can't afford to come back. Many expats are in the same boat but you wont see this documented on the BBC

Three voted for Australia. The little girl was undecided.

I reckon they'll end up going.

Wonder if they'll do a follow up on that family. Would be interested to see if they stayed or not.

My sister and her husband and five kids were stuck out there, they had a lovely house here and after 2 years in Australia she couldn't take anymore of it and my Dad and her Father - in -law had to send them the plane fare to come home, they all hated it , they had to start again from the bottom when they got back here.

Awful. Alot more commonplace than the British/Aussie Media would lead us to believe. I wonder why.....

I'm only ever around during the day on a Friday.

At least traffic will be better next week.

Does anyone here know why the houses in Australia have such tiny little bland gardens? with all the space they have there they should have acres to spare for each house.
And why do they have those horrible metal fences, it makes them look like prison excersise yards.
I hadn't thought about this before but you are quite right. Apart from the patio area they mostly consist of a small area of tatty grass overlooked by lots of other houses.

Another thing that gets me is all the votes. One at the end should be sufficient.

I guess Australians spend more time out and about than in their house or garden... plus I've seen some lovely gardens on the show, they just come with a bigger price tag! (That the family usually doesn't have but choose not to acknowledge).

It's a strange thing really going to live in a different country.
My Aunt and Uncle emigrated with their five children something like 40 years ago. They still live in the first house they bought out there and seemingly have all made happy lives for themselves. That said they had a very poor house in a bad area over here.

None of us have ever been so it's hard to compare what they had then and what they have now really.

A friend of mine emigrated with her husband and son about 23 years ago. Her husband had a family member over there and later her own parents and a brother also emigrated. Since then she had another child but the marriage broke up. She eventually remarried and has seemed very happy.

On the other hand I know of a family who seemed to be unable to settle, returned here and still couldn't settle, went back...
And another family, he Kiwi and she British, who emigrated with their two children. Her parents were so upset they finally emigrated, but they couldn't hack it out there in New Zealand and have returned home to set up again.

On the one hand it's what you make of it I suppose but also a lot to do with what you can afford.
What struck me in parts of Australia we visited is the flimsy construction of the houses as well as their closeness, there wasn't much substance to them and that lead to a lack of privacy.

I know it's trash but it is my favourite morning TV show.

It's only really fun though when you get ones like today where there's one person that really wants to go, usually the father who bullies the whole family in a passive agressive manner until they submit.

He's a selfish fool who should be ashamed but I must admit to enjoying it!

Nicki Chapman's not great, but personally I find Phil Spencer on his programme much more irritating. He's so smug and makes out that it's all absolutely fantastic in Australia. If it's so great, why doesn't he do us all a favour and bugger off there permanently then?!

Just watching Phil's DOwn Under show. You're right he is very smug and people watching this show would definitely think Sydney is the best city on earth and anyone with any money can come down here 'for the lifestyle' ... Theres no negatives at all !
