Seeing the adapters are costing almost £80 here in the U.K

There is ebay seller selling them for £12.65 in Australia
but with no feedback as yet, so far he has sold over 50

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-SONY-UWA-B...280434817#shId

Do I chance it?

No. You may be nobbled for VAT and import duty if they do decide to check it and value it at local market price. When it breaks after a few weeks you have no way to get a refund or replacement.
Chances are it's sent from China too, not Australia.

Of course I may be wrong. Mine is just a worst case scenario.

One thing that is puzzling me.

The price appears to be in Australian Dollars. But the blurb keeps referring to customers outside the US? And there is an abbreviation USPS which from the context it is used in makes me think it stands for United States Postal Service.

Err what??

At that price it will almost certainly make it through OK, and if not they don't "value it at the local marker price" - they just slap import duty and VAT on it (and a charge for the Postman collecting the money).

If you used to have a network adapter for the PS2 you can use that .

A couple of Homeplugs is an easy option, better than wireless, and worth having about anyway.

Personally, I'd rather buy one from a UK-based website using a credit card so that you have all sorts of protection from fraud, malfunction, distance selling, etc.

I would recommend either eBuyer or Maplin.

No problem - and remember if you use a credit card, you're protected under the credit act!
