Who would you have in yours? You can have anyone, living or dead, in the rock scene, but no more than two members of any one band (unless they were in that band but are now in another, ie you could have Phil Lynott, Brian Downey AND Gary Moore, as the last is now a solo artist).

You should pick the following:-

One lead singer (should not play any instrument)
One lead guitarist
Two rhythm guitarists
One bass player
One or two keyboard/piano player(s)
One drummer

You can also pick up to three additional musicians, who play some alternative instrument (violin/banjo/sax etc)

Interested to see what sort of fantasy rock bands people will pick, and how different (or similar) they'll be...

If we're confining it to 'rock' here's mine;

Steve Perry - Vocals
Michael Schenker (as he was between 73-78) - Lead Guitar
John Entwistle - Bass
Johny Marr - Rhythm Guitar
Scott Gorham - Rhythm Guitar
John Bonham - Drums

Not sure how that would sound, possibly too many egos??

Or all of Led Zep if that was allowed.

Good choices all.
I had a think about mine last night, and here's what I've come up with:-

Ronnie James Dio --- lead vocals
Rory Gallagher --- lead guitar and backing vocals
Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) --- rhythym guitar 1
John Sykes (Thin Lizzy/Tygers of Pan Tang) --- rhythm guitar 2
Mark Kelley (Marillion) --- keyboards
Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) --- bass guitar
Rick Davies (Supertramp) --- piano
Cozy Powell --- drums

Additonal members:-

Clarence Clemmons (The E Street Band) --- sax
Charlie Daniels --- fiddle

Lots of possible choices of course --- Phil Lynott would have been a shoe-in for bass, but then he would have had to do lead vocals too, and many choices for the lead vocal, including Bowie, Bon Jovi, Jon Anderson and Steve Perry, but I tried to put people where (in theory) they would not have a problem performing. Mark Knopfler was another one, good for rhythm guitar but would have wanted to sing too.

These rock stars!

One lead singer - Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
One lead guitarist - Jack White (White stripes etc.)
Two rhythm guitarists - Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai)/Ian MacKaye(Fugazi/Minor Threat)
One bass player - Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order)
One or two keyboard players - Phil Oakey and Martyn Ware (New Order/Heaven 17)
One drummer - Fab Morretti (The Strokes)

Aditional Members

Brian Eno - doing whatever it is he feels like doing

God only knows what they would produce. But it would be good and it would be mental.

EDIT: I know having oakey and Ware is a push since we wanted a "rock" band. But if i'm putting a keyboard player in its going to be 80's electro or the bloke from crystal castles.

I did wonder how long before he got a mention.

I could happily sit and do this all day. A band for every genre.

Brian Tatler! a very underated guitarist from a very underated band. Have been re-visiting Diamond Head's Canterbury album recently and his playing on that is superb!

I have met him (and Sean Harris and have both their autographs).

He's a very humble guy and a true gent.
