Humax only make one Freesat recorder. (Called the Foxsat HDR.)
It's pretty good with just a few UI niggles. |

Humax Foxsat HDR. There might be a new model coming out soon but whether that's a good or a bad thing is unknown. I owned a 9200T and swore never to buy Humax again. Having to wait indefinitely for it load the EPG from transmitted data (fixed in the last patch) my biggest pet hate was that it would randomly drop series link timers without warning.
Thankfully the HDR has none of those problems. For the first time ever I'd actually rate it as more reliable than a Sky PVR(*). Not hugely so but since disabling accurate record (the broadcaster's fault, not the boxes) it has never put a foot wrong. (*)Although it's a little hard to judge. My HDR is backup to take the load off the twin tuners in the Sky box. My Sky HD box probably records around 40 hours a week whereas the HDR only records perhaps 10 hours. Still - the Sky box has screwed up three or four recordings over the last year, the HDR has screwed up none. |

I've had a Foxsat HDR for nearly a year now and don't really have a bad word to say about it.
And now thanks to some sterling work from Mogie over on the avforums you can transfer recordings off the Foxsat HDR via ftp. see http://www.avforums.com/forums/frees...t-working.html |

Thx to all for replys but if the Humax Foxsat HDR has been out for 2 years it would be about time for a new model to come out soon wont it?
So would i be better off waiting for that? |

So would i be better off waiting for that? Two points to bear in mind: 1) Humax are known for releasing boxes with a log of annoying bugs and are extremely slow at issuing updates. There are still some odd niggles that have not been sorted out with the current box (not that they will stop you doing anything you need to). 2) They are also not known for being forthcoming with reliable release dates. The current box works well and reliably so you'd probably be better off getting it rather than waiting an unspecified length of time for a box that may have really annoying bugs/niggles that you have to wait another year to get corrected. |

So would i be better off waiting for that? As Jepson mentioned, Humax are EXTREMELY slow at product development and software updates. |

Have you moved to a different area and hence Freesat switch ? If you have Freeview PVR working worth waiting for either the Freeview of Freesat youview - freeview version summer 2011, freesat ... who knows.

Give me a tried and tested piece of kit over a brand new design (with all the problems usually associated with newness) every time.
