I had to have my 17 year-old pts on Boxing Day.

Today was the turn of my 15 year-old.

Both had renal failure.

You can probably imagine how I'm feeling.

Guess I'll have to change my posting ID now.

How horrible OP, I really do feel for you.

I hope that you can find some solice in the fact that both your kitty's are together again now. They both lived to a lovely age.

As you did such a good job - In time maybe you could consider offering your home and love to some more fluff balls?

Thanks.

I'm a middle-aged bloke who can't stop blubbering.

There's an extra sadness in that the cats were the last link to my wife who died in 2002.

I'm off to take the leftover food and bedding and toys to the local animal shelter.

It's suddenly very lonely here.

Oh gosh OP - I'm nearly in tears myself

My grandparents got a kitten shortly before my Nan passed away. When the cat died 12 years later my poor Granddad was almost as distraught as when he lost my Nan.

I know that pets become such a huge part of our lives and for some people who maybe live alone it is a lot harder to comes to terms with the loss. also losing them both is such a short space of time muct make the grief feel even more crushing.

I know it's very early days but would you consider re-homing in the future? You sound like a wonderful cat owner.... (Apologies if this sounds insensitive I know your cats were family and am not suggesting that your merely 'replace' them)

Awww ((((hugs)))) So,so sorry for your loss, cant imagine what your going through although I do abit (if that makes sense).

My dad died last year then my dear sister 3months later, she had two beautiful cats (one was poorly though) I took both her cats but one had to be put to sleep just a few weeks after sis died.....I have her sister Lucy with me and it feels like I still have a link to my sis. She has become very, very cuddly and kissy (wasnt like that before) poor darling, lost her mum then her sister and now sharing a house with 2 more cats (one very, very gobby)

Do hope you get another puss..

Somecats: My thoughts are with you. I will be devastated when my boy goes, he's been with me through some very tough times.

Take time to grieve. Maybe you will be up for taking on some other kitties in the future? We all know too well that there are 1000s of cats in need of a good, loving home.

No kittens or young cats, I don't think -- they'd probably outlast me then have nowhere to go. But maybe, in time, I could give an older rescue cat a decent few last years, but not for a long while yet.

Don't do that-you might regret it later. Give it a bit of time, you might find you decide to give another cat a home. There are plenty that need it. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Og course - you take your time and do what you need to do.

Do you have friends / family near by OP - just for a bit of company? Or you could visit them for a change of scenery?

Thanks for all your concern and sympathy.

I'll be OK. Sad but OK.

I take some consolation by telling myself I did my best for them and they simply reached the end of the journey.

It is very sad and the emptiness in the home is awful ! even if they sleep all day its a nice feeling to know they are there.....just give it time ! I can bet you in a few weeks time (or a few months) you will be joining in the forum and telling us about your new pusscat....although you feel raw at this time....we all know how you feel...

Really sorry to hear that, hope things pick up a bit for you soon. They were great ages for cats to live to, you must have been a bloody good owner.

17 and 15 are rather elderly for cats. They had a good, long and happy life. Now they are in cat heaven leaping about like kittens.

On the human side, it is very sad as they are like your kids only they don't live so long.

I will be thinking of you.

Fostering cats is perhaps a more useful way forward when one gets older should you wish some.

I have a friend who is the Pippa Ross of the cat world. She has fostered hundreds of cats for Cats Protection. I love going to her house at kitten time.

Thank you everybody.

All I can say is this - throughout the years they were here, the cats never went hungry, were never cold, never afraid, never unmended, never neglected and never mistreated, and I'm very pleased about that.

This pain when they go is the true cost of having cats, and the tears when you have to take them to their deaths is the real price of love.

I miss them.

Bless you Somecats, I hope that once the pain eases a little you can smile at the memomries and raise a toast to your cat's!

You never forget them, but knowing you did a wonderful job and gave them a wonderful life will hopefully give you some comfort.

My goodness. What an incredibly smashing bloke you are. I have 2 cats, one is 9 this year and I love her so much that I get very sad when i think, even briefly, that in a few years time she will no longer be here. My Tom is 3 this year and I get comfort in watching him play and be a little bugger!

I am a 42 year old man and my Cats are , the most precious thing I possess. I absolutely adore them. I have had to take 2 cats since 2002 to be pts. Both times it hurt so much I blubbered in the street and all the way home.

I know what you're going through and if ANYONE has the stupidity and insensitivity to say to you "Come on they're only cats!" just punch them. They're not only cats. They're our babies. If you don't love and adore your cats, what's the point of having them?

God bless you mate!

Know how you feel, it`s a ghastly thing to have to make the decision for but you know you`ve done the kindest thing for them both. Sooooooo sad.

Having had to do similar for my own lovely cats I send hugs to you. Please keep your name, it`s such a lovely reminder of them.

Plez take care and ((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) to you
