Excuse my ignorance but does the Hmuax Freesat Recorder support top up TV.

I was wondering as Sky Sports et al are on the non-freesat channel list.

Please do not ridicule this question and remember that you, yourself, were once this thick in relation to gadgets and things!!

Thanks

TC

No, it doesn't.

They are two different technologies.

Freesat is digital satellite technology which uses dishes and Top Up runs on Digital terrestrial which uses aerials.

(The Humax box does not have facilities for a card which would be necessary to get pay channels such as sky sports.)

No Top UP TV is only for digital terrestrial TV and you would need a specific PVR from them.

The reason you see all the Sky channels (encrypted) in non-Freesat mode is that they are are all transmitted from the same group of satellites as Freesat. But you would obviously need a Sky box and subscription to view them. The majority of the free-to-air channels you get on Freesat are the very same ones that Sky also have free-to-air.

Not quite true the Foxsat-hdr has a CI slot into which a cam can be be slotted. It has been used to allow a freesat from sky card to give access to ftv channels, but not as you say for subscription services.

Bringing this thread slightly offtopic (I should probably stop doing that :P), is there a CAM that'll allow you to use a FSFS card without having to renew it in a Sky box? Or do you not need to do it anyway? Just, it'd be nice to get things like C4HD, etc.

It was the CI slot which made me wonder.

Why on earth is there one if it can only be used to get some ITV channels?

Because everything has one, so they'd look stupid if they didn't, I assume :P

Joking aside - potential future pay services, I expect.
