Sound bars
Am thinking of getting a Blue ray sound bar system, am i right in thinking that the sound bar will sit under the tv nicely? i havent got my tv on a wall its just sat on it's stand.

Well that all depends on how tall the soundbar is and how high the TV stand is.
There are two potential problems that come immediately to mind. The sound bar may be tall enough to cover the bottom of the screen. And it may be wide enough as well to cover the remote control sensor for the TV. |

The sound bar is 15 cms tall and 40 cms wide but my tv is 42" so it should be ok, the stand is 40cms again.

Try searching for the same sound bar manufacturer as your TV they usually try to make them into a pair or as near as possible
I have a Pioneer Kuro screen and a Pioneer SB 300 sound bar and they dovetail perfectly on the same glass stand. Making the equipment look good as well functional just rounds the whole package off.
