But stands for the rear will be a problem, how much are stands? What would be a good solution, something cheap from ikea or something?

I'd probably prefer the ht-c5550 model which has stands, but it's £130+ more expensive (can't be just for the stands, heh)

Both of those have bluray equipment, I want to use my ps3 for bluray instead, there is no conflict with this I assume?

If you don't want the built in Blu-Ray player then why look at this type of system?

For not a lot more than your first system you can get the Onkyo HTS3305

Which I would suggest is a far superior system to either of the Samsungs. And being a proper AV receiver it is dead easy to plug your PS3 in via HDMI and make use of that as your disk player.

I did look at that one but was put off by a common rear speaker problem where it will switch, and need taking into a specialist in order to fix.

Not heard of that before. And I'm not sure if it really is that common either. I tried several different google searches and kept coming back to the same handful of websites.

So on that basis I'm not sure if it is serious enough to put me off. And it appears to only affect the amp in certain specific operating modes. Plus it seems the solution is a firmware upgrade so I'm wondering if Onkyo are not shipping current units with the updated firmware anyway given that they discovered the problem in May last year?

Getting that amp wouldn't help the stand situation as people have been reporting problems with bought stands in this thread
