In my earlier post I said that I had tried the first half only, with the same result.”

That matches mine but I don't get that clash only the wierd one. A manual recording pair should work OK as it puts you in charge .

Thanks Graham. Looks like an insoluble one at my level, so I'll just leave it to other experts to bend their brain cells.

I mis-interpreted what you said earlier, and thought you meant set each half individually, but I accept that manual setting's probably the present solution.

Any chance of a slightly less technical explanation? What the heck are CRIDs anyway?

Content reference identifiers. Any programme that is series linked should have two.

A series crid that is the same for every transmission considered by the broadcaster to be part of a series.

A programme crid that is the same for each showing of the same episode and different from the code used for the others.

When you set a series recording from the epg a freesat+ box finds the first episode on the channel that you set that matches the series crid and schedules that recording in the schedule list.

After recording the epg is scanned for a matching series crid and a different programme crid if it finds one the schedule is updated. If not the last recording stays in the schedule and the box keeps looking for the next for up to 13 weeks. If none is found in 13 weeks the entry is deleted (if you haven't already manually done so).

If for instance the broadcaster makes an error and schedules say ITV1-HD and ITV1-SD London with the same series crid and a different prog crid for the same episode the box schedules both recordings if it can, if it can't you get the clash message

The Foxsat-hdr can be set to display the codes in the programme info.
