Resiting router
My router is upstairs at the moment...now,bear with me
![]() ....I want to bring it down stairs and sit by the telly so I can cable it into my new telly (when I get one). The telephone socket is the other side of the room (with filter), and it has an extension routed around the skirting to my sky box. My question is, Will it be ok to put a double adapter on the telephone extension and then feed the sky box and also the router? hope this make sense

Provided you use an appropriate ADSL filter, yes.
However it's not unusual for broadband to be adversely affected by extension wiring, so bear that in mind. Having said that, I resited my router from the master socket to an extension and speed improved - go figure.

You need to plug the extension lead directly into the socket, not via a filter. Then at the other end plug a filter into the extension lead and your double adapter into the phone socket on the filter if you want a phone and your Sky box plugged in at the same time. Or just plug the Sky box direct to the filter if there is no phone.
If you have the filter at the start of the extension you'll remove the ADSL signal from the extension lead so a router plugged in at the other end won't work. |

Should be fine provided of course you fit the filters correctly.
Siting it close to your Sky box might cause other problems like interfering with some transponders though. |

Thank everyone
Just looked at the phone socket.. should have done that before my post... the best i can describe is, It has a filter plugged in, then, an adapter which has a socket for phone then a hard wired extension which goes to the sky box, not sure what to do. |

Remove the filter from the socket, plug in the adapter, plug the filter into the apapter and connect the local phone and connect the extension to the sky box to the other socket. At the sky box end fit a 2nd splitter, fit a new filter to the sky box connection and the other straight to the router. |

If there is another device plugged into the phone line apart from the Sky box then simplest option is plug the splitter into the phone socket on the filter. Otherwise you'd need two filters which might not be necessary. |

No need for a splitter at the end of the extension lead as the Sky box is the only thing plugged in that end as far as I can tell. So just a single filter plugged direct into the extension lead.

![]() Reading the OP it seems to me that the only thing currently plugged into the socket in the room where the TV and Sky box are is the Sky box, no phone mentioned. So the connection plan is simple. Remove the filter from the phone socket. Plug extension lead directly into the phone socket. Take the filter and plug it into the other end of the extension lead having unplugged the Sky box first. Then plug the Sky box into the phone socket on the filter and the router to the ADSL socket on the filter. No phone socket doublers/splitters/adapters or whatever you choose to call them required. ![]() Just re-read the thread. Seems there is a phone plugged into the socket after all. So slight rewrite required. Plug socket doubler into wall socket. Plug filter into one outlet and extension lead into other. Plug phone into filter at wall socket. Plug another filter into the end of the extension lead and plug Sky box and router in appropriate sockets on filter. Last edited by chrisjr : 16-01-2011 at 15:22. Reason: Learn to read |
