For me its a deffintate yes, love the Peter Gabriel era. Selling England By The Pound is one of my favorite albums of all time. I also like the Phil Collins era too its good Pop/Rock.

Sometimes though people are too harsh on Phil. Genesis wouldnt have been the band they were in the early 70s without him on drums. Also a lot of people say he was glad to get Peter Gabriel out of the way so he could do his "c**p" music. He only sang on A Trick of The Tail cause they couldnt get anyone else to sing.

Same with Steve Hackett he has often said when he went to hand his resignation letter in he saw Phil in the car and Phil stopped to offer him a lift. Steve refused as he knew if he had got in the car Phil would have convinced him to stay.

Another yes here! Loved everything they did (yes, even "From Genesis to Revelation"!), though the band did take a different tack after PG left. Up to then, they had been a pretty dramatic-oriented band, basing their songs on myths, high concepts and their songs were generally longer. TotT is a great album, probably my favourite post-Gabriel era, but you can see the more commerical influences beginning to creep in on songs like "Robbery assault and battery" and "Entangled". I suppose "Wind and wuthering" is the "last gasp of Gabriel-era Genesis", as it were: a fantastic album, and featuring the epic songs that characterised the early years of the band, particularly "Eleventh earl of Mar" and "One for the vine".

That said, I very much enjoyed "And then there were three", "Genesis", "We can't dance", even "Calling all stations", but I was definitely not sold on "Abacab", definitely their most poppy and least prog album, despite "Dodo/Lurker". I would have said that marked their slide into more commerical, pop territory, but then along came the self-titled album, and I warmed back to them again.

I suppose they're finished as a band now, which is a pity, but I think it was a stretch too far to try to replace PC as singer/frontman. Although I'm not a huge fan of Collins's work, he was the driving force behind the band after Peter left, and I think once he also decided to go, the band should have left it at that, maybe concentrating on solo projects, or renamed the band maybe.

What do you think of Gabriel's solo music? I liked everything up to (hah!) "Up", which I just could not get into, despite my very best efforts. Loved "Ovo", "Us", "So", and the first four albums, as well as the OST to "The last temptation of Christ"....

I loved them up until Invisible Touch - which could've been a good album but for the plastic production (that sounded dated by the time the album was out).

We Can't Dance and Calling All Stations were horrible dad-rock.

I still had/have that on vinyl which was never part of the combined music collection - never got round to getting it on CD. The other Genesis vinyls were given to a friend after he was burgled.

I love Genesis and all of there albums.

Phil Collins is my fav singer ever but I also like Peter Gabrial Genesis era as well as his solo career.

I even liked Genesis last new album Calling All Stations which was originaly released in 1997 and had a new lead singer Ray Wilson.

I was a shame that Genesis with Ray Wilson didn't last long but I still think that Calling All Stations was an exellent album.

And those who say that Genesis Invisible Touch album that was released in 1987 with Phil Collins as the bands singer at the time was just pure pop and there for was crap can get lost as you are clearly not true fans because if you are then you would like all of Genesis albums.

Also when watching The Genesis Songbook DVD they got up to the Invisible Touch album and someone they interviewed said that they listened to the album for the first time and said that it was just pure pop and not what Genesis is and after listening to it he threw the disc around like a frizzbie. So this person can not really call him self a ture Genesis fan.

Genesis from Peter Gabrial era thought to the Phil Collins era and to the Ray Wilson era all were great.

For me the greatest band ever. Long live Genesis.

I didn't really get into Genesis until the Invisible Touch album, although I had liked Phil Collins solo stuff prior to that (and I also remember and liked Paperlate from the early 80's Genesis).

Anyway, once I'd bought Invisible Touch, I worked backwards and bought the entire back catalogue, over time. I have to say, I probably prefer the Peter Gabriel era, but love both sides of Genesis. Ironically, probably my favourite album was Wind and Wuthering, which is massively under-rated album from 1977 when Peter Gabriel had left.

So, although I can love lamb Lies Down on Broadway, I can love Duke in equal measure.

I'm a massive fan of all the genesis albums...but i believe they peaked at tott and wind and wuthering. I think when steve left the band, they lost a huge part of what made there music great. his guitar playing was atmospheric and sublime and albums after he left were missing that certain something. i believe he is a vastly underestimated member of the group and was upset he wasnt asked to join them on the last tour ( apparently he was only considered if the main five all got back together but once pete said no they didnt bother with steve). i agree with an earlier poster that abacab was a big let down.. I dont mind a few on there but overall its pretty poor by genesis standards. My favourite gabriel era song is obviously the epic suppers ready, favourite song when they were a four piece is afterglow and favourite song of the collins era is home by the sea although this changes annually depending on ipod mood. Ive converted many friends ovr the years but for some reason they love the collins era, maybe they like songs to be 4 mins and not 26 mins anthems. If you to ever only listen to 1 genesis song it should be ripples.... Then take it from there. My two cents

The main reason I did not particularly like that album, as I do not like other albums from that era, is the excessive use of drum machines. Horrible things they be that always produce a nasty sound.
