This week sees:
Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
Adele - Rolling In The Deep
Bruno Mars - Grenade

This is the first major chart battle of the year, basically, and it really could go either way.

Britney has the promotional value of having a Glee episode in her honour premiering on the day of release. Also it has the buzz of being 'BRITNEY'S NEW SONG!!!111 ZOMG!" and is recieving good radio airplay (it's Scott Mills record of the week and is C listed). On the other hand it has only recently premiered and doesn't have a video.

Adele is facing alot of success off the back of her X Factor hype this year and is riding high on iTunes at the moment but she may be the type of artist that tails off mid week and alot of her fans may wait for the album next week.

Bruno sold incredibly well last week but could lose steam this week and may suffer single sales seeing as his album is released this week.

I think it will go:
1) Grenade
2) Hold It Against Me
3) Rolling In The Deep

although I'd prefer:
1) Hold It Against Me
2) Rolling In The Deep
3) Grenade

Your thoughts...

I think Hold It Against Me will go No.1. The hype and early success speaks for itself, along with being an early hit with critics.

I want Rolling In The Deep at 2, but I think Grenade will snatch it.

I want Rolling in the Deep to go to number 1, stunning song, sung perfectly and Adele is far too talented not to have had a #1 single yet. I think she might do it. I think both Adele and Britney will probably outsell Bruno Mars this week.

it is exciting!!! i LOVE Britney and adore Adele's voice and like Bruno's Granade (not keen on him though!)

but i must say i think that it will go either way.

Britney is HUGE with HIAM right now, and if it continues this trend and tops the chart it would have done exceptionally well being C-listed and having had zero physical promo or video.

Adele has also gotten acclaim for her song and A-listed too and her vido has been out for a while circulating too.

Best wait for the mid-weeks to find out

But if Britney gets #1 i think Adele could then get it the following week along with her album release too and score a chart double, whereas Britney's video will premiere in February and UK promo will start in late Feb i am presuming prio to the album in March so may re-chart at the top later on with more attention and HUGE album sales for the debut week.

Bruno's album however is out now so the sales for Grenade will decline presumably because more will buy the album.

As i said however Adele's and Britney's songs are BOTH very strong for their respective genre's and progress each artist further. Would be impressed with either but would love Britney to continue smashing those records and debut at the top

I'd love Adele and Britney to share number 1 because I think they both deserve it, but I sway more towards wanting a Britney number 1 single and Adele number 1 album.

Plus I'd rather Adele got her first number 1 with Someone like you which I feel is a stronger song than Rolling in the Deep.

yeah i think Adele is more album artist really, and her songs will still sell very well still however.

Both of them do deserve the top spot too! Britney as it will continue the trend and also be her first #1 in 7 years. And Adele it's nice to continue the trend at an early point in your career. But 21 will sell HUGE early on! i think 2011 will have greater album sales than last year! which was disappointingly low actually the more i think about it (with some exceptions in the summer, and of course from October to December for the Winter season is the highest point anyways!)

but we have huge up and coming stars, icons returning and artists following up successful debut albums with their sophomore albums! going to be brilliant!

I think Grenade will hold on as it's I-Tunes lead is huge.

I like all three songs, I'm not mad about any of them though so I don't mind who wins the battle. I think it'll be between Bruno and Britney, so it'd be nice to see Adele get #1 with her album.

I really don't have a clue how it'll turn out, although it usually becomes obvious about half way through the week who'll get #1.

There were some great chart battles last year though. Like The Saturdays vs. Eminem/Rihanna vs. Flo Rida/David Guetta. That week, I genuinely didn't have a clue who'd be #1 until it was announced. I doubt this week's will be as close as that. Often it's the lower selling weeks which are more unpredictable.

I hope Adele tops the chart. Her song is better than the other two. She may fail because people wait for her album instead of buying the single, which includes a track of her singing the song without the music. Britney couldn't do that.

I think it is between Adele and Britney. Bruno's song was released before theirs, so will not sell as much as it would if it was being released this week. I expect it to be in the top 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if Britney doesn't make the top 3. I don't know who her audience is supposed to be. The song isn't one of her best, and the only thing it seems to have is a chat-up line. Though some people like Britney, I don't think she is very popular. Her popularity is due to her earlier songs, which are better than this one.

The outcome of this battle is unpredictable. Any of those three could win. And though she won't be number 1, don't be surprised if Jessie J stays in the top 3, keeping out Adele or Britney.

I don't think Britney will get number one! It is a good song but it is extremely rare for a song in the UK to get to number one without a video for some weird reason.

I want Britney to be #1, but she has not been #1 here for 7 years but loads of her recent songs have been HUGE in the US. But there is something about this song, I really do think she will get #1. Last time I checked she was in the Top 20 of I tunes despite only being available for 12 hours.

I checked earlier and Britney was at #17 (if my memory serves correctly), but it looks as if she's dropped out of the top 100. I'll assume that's a mistake.

I'd love HIAM to go to Number 1 as it's such a great Britney track, but without a video and limited airplay I don't think it will. Glad they decided to put it out in the UK though, didn't want to wait til the end of february!

Thankfully, it isnt looking like Shitney will be number one.

I reckon Bruno Mars will be with Adele at number 2.

I expect Britney to climb into the top 10 but last night I did predict that one of those big contenders would miss out on a place in the top3. Britney might be that contender. Glee has been on tonight and could make a difference, though people may just download the Glee covers instead. Apparently Britney's song is £1.29 on iTunes. Some people may not be willing to pay more for it, though it may be cheaper on other sites.

Bruno Mars' album is out today. I don't know if downloading individual tracks counts as singles, but if it does, Grenade could benefit. If it doesn't, sales of Grenade may be affected. Though the chart updates are interesting, it's too early to tell how the final charts will look.

Doubt Britney will contend for #1 anymore. She's missed 2 days of sales effectively. Bruno should hold on for another week, possibly ADELE next week.

ordered Britney's on Amazon and it's #5 on there and cost 85p for HIAM.

and it's already in the top 10 in Itunes! with less than 24 hrs of release so that's already done very well for itself. And with Glee having BIG audiences, and radio airplay will be garnered from this too i really think Britney is on her way into the top 3 at the LEAST, though #1 will be fantastic!

But considering she has done ZERO promo here in the UK, NO video yet either its still doing better than the other songs in THAT respect!

But as everyone is saying, we'll have to wait for the mid-weeks chart for a taster of what we have!

I can see #3 debut for Brit, with a strong possibility of getting that #1 the week after, or even in Feb when the video drops.

Out of the three songs, I'd like Grenade to retain top spot with Rolling In The Deep just behind.
