Bucks Fizz - If You Can't Stand The Heat
Nearly 29 years on I think this song still sounds as brilliant and fresh today as it did in 1982! Definitely one of Buck Fizz's best songs, imo. Such a brilliantly crafted pop song. I love the melody and the backing track and Cheryl and Jay's singing on it. It annoys me that so many people only seem to remember Bucks Fizz for their cheesy Eurovision song and think of them as some kind of novelty act as a result, and forget all the countless better songs that followed. They had some class songs for sure!
Anyway, for those who don't know If You Can't Stand The Heat (or just want to be reminded of it!), here it is in all it's glory!! ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7A4lh9HuZg&ob=av2nm And here's one of their most underrated (imo) songs: The Rules Of The Game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLYduJjUvag&ob=av2nm |

I'm not so keen on their early stuff but "New Beginning" was a fantastic song.

Early days the music was pretty cheesy, but i think for the most part it was on the good side of cheesy - I am not ashamed to say that to this day, "Making Your Mind Up" is one of only a handful of songs that will propel me to the dance floor....
As said up thread, New Beginnings is actually a rather marvellous tune. |

I have a BF compilation CD. I'd say my fave tracks are 'Now Those Days Are Gone', 'Golden Days'(which Cliff also recorded) and 'You And Your Heart So Blue'. My favourite later track is 'Heart Of Stone', infinitlely better than the Cher version IMO. One of the most underrated groups of the 80s

Too many good nuggets to pinpoint one or two. Their music has really stood the test of time.
I recall when If You Can't Stand The Heat was out at Christmas and it peaked at no 10. I remember standing in Woollies as they a poster of the official charts every week in every store and seeing that this song had been certifiied for 250,000 sales. My how times have changed! |

It's my favourite song of theirs. I love the outfits and dance routine that accompanied the song when they performed on TOTP.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned on here abot the legal action taken by Bobby G to derail "the original Bucks Fizz".
To me it seems like Bobby G is not happy that "the original Bucks Fizz" has now become more popular and in demand than his own version - that he claims time over time to be the original since all other members left (in some case true) but would you rather pay money to see one original member and three unknowns, or to see three originals performing? Since tyhey have now become more popular he is now taking legal action against them to try and stiop them from continuing so that he can take his tribute band round the country without any competition from the "original", Bobby G comes across as quite sad and pathetic for doing so, if he had any ounce of sense he would swallow his pride (and ego) to reform with Mike, Jay and Cheryl, which is what many really want to happen. |
