Dog has a paw pad cut - advice

Hi Folks, my 2 year old lab cross started to walk with a limp yesterday.
On inspection I can see he has a cut on the padding of one of his paws (back leg)

So far I've been cleaning the area best I can and limiting his walks to bathroom breaks (poor dog will be hating this!).

Does anyone have any tips on helping this type of wound heal?

I'm in 2 minds about buying an elizabethan collar to stop him licking.

Any wee tips very welcome

It depends on how deep the cut is. I had to take a dog to the vets once after he cut his pad on some broken glass. It was quite a nasty cut - a lot of blood. If it's not too deep, continue cleaning it. Not sure whether you'll need an elizabethan collar. Usually, I would suggest a trip to the vets if you're in a quandry over such an injury.

I would take him too the vets incase it is deeper than you think. what your doing in the meantime is fine. An alternative is too put a sock on it and tape it too his fur with some micropore tape. It might work. I did it too one of my cats once and within a couple of days she was fine with it.

Thanks guys.

He's due his annual check up and boosters so we'll kill 2 birds with one stone.

I'm fairly sure the cut isn't too deep. Very little blood. Will put him in the bath too to soften the pad up and I'll get a right look and get him an appointment with the vet.
