Humax HD FreeSat+ PVR without dish
I am getting FreeSat+ installed in a couple of weeks but the PVR I am getting is not Humax, as I already have the cables etc installed all I want is a new Humax Twin Tuner PVR on its own as I do not need cables/installation, so can someone tell me the full "name/title" of the Humax PVR that does this, its just that I kind of got lost due to their being sooooo many humax's PVR ie FV and FS, so hope someone can help and also where can I find them, thanks again bbuk

That has me confused. What exactly are you getting for your Freesat+ "installation"?

What I am getting is full installation ie dish on the wall and all the "bits and bobs" that are needed to "get the FreeSat+ up and running" it would just be the case of replacing the PVR itself......
And why do you not feel it's worth giving it a try? It seems unusual to pay for an installation including a PVR - which would almost certainly be the most expensive part - and then just get rid of it. |

I am getting a SAGEM FreeSat+ HD and to be honest with you I have not heard very good things about it, its being bought for me by someone, and I was thinking of replacing it IF the Sagem gives me any problems, I just wanted some general idea of what to look for as I assumed that ALL FreeSat HD boxes would have the disc etc and as I have said, it would already be "set up" it would just be the case of replacing, and I thought jut buying the box would be cheaper that having to buy the whole setup.
* Having said that I've also heard bad things here about the Digihome Freeview boxes but I know several people who have them and are 100% happy with them so the Sagem box may be fine for someone who is not too concerned with the minutia. |

I agree that Sagem don't have the best of reputations here where Freesat is concerned* and if you do find the box is no good the Humax is an excellent choice.

The Humax is a great box to use and looks attractive, but in my own experience, it falls down in the 2 areas described above. Chris. |

I think I see now. Of course it is you and your family but I would be asking if they would mind not getting the Sagem. Presumably at some point when they come to visit they will spot the switch anyway?

I know there is a lot of Humax worship on these forums (and I must admit that I'm very happy with mine) but if the Humax/Sagem situation is anything like the Humax/Digihome one opinions here will not be representative of the vast majority of the viewing public. According to Brumlad the Sagem works perfectly well. |

Why is it excessive? If it is not what the OP really wants? And who amongst us has not persevered with an unwanted present rather than upset the giver by swapping it for what they really wanted?

I remember seeing somewhere a lot of people trashing the Digihome in favour of the Humax with lots of winkies and 'knowing' comments but people I know who have one are perfectly happy with it. I just worry that people will go away from this (or other 'specialised' forum(s) with the impression that anything not made by Humax is rubbish and that really isn't the case. |

To be honest with you my family never visit me as I live in a flat and my dad and mum are in wheelchairs or have arthiritist so they will only visit once or twice and I will "show them it" via my mobile phone, so they know I have it, and as I have said its just the case IF the pvr is not very good also I can tell them a wee "pork pie" and say that the Sagem did not work and I got a Humax as a replacement but to just say "by me a Humax!!!!" is just not on as my family have put a few quid away for me to get this, thanks a lot for replying bbuk

You could contact the installer & ask for a humax with you paying the extra at the outset, then invoke your wee porkie.

I did wonder if there was some kind of special deal with the Sagem involved. In which case, stick with Plan A.

I've got a Sagem Freeview box and it's good apart from the annoying habit of randomly deleting series links or ignoring a Recording that I've set. I don't know if the Sagem Freesat Remote is simular to the Sagem freeview Remote but I find it a little on the light and cramped side. I've got the non PVR Humax Foxsat-HD and I have never had any problems with sound being out, and my Mother in-law has got the HDR and the Remote is well laid out.
