Hello all,

I have just got a Humax FOXSAT HDR 320gb...

I would like to get BBC iplayer and my next door neighbour has given me his ‘BT home hub 2’ code so I can use his internet as I don't have internet.. Is there a way I can set up a wireless connection I can’t set up home plugs (I don’t want to be to cheeky and ask to plug them into his house)

I have for my computer a Belkin 802.11g Wireless USB Network Adapter or xbox360 USB stick?? Will any of these works??
or
Would I need to pay for something like a Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gaming Adapter I hear this could work?!

Anyone can help?!! Many Thanks…

Homeplugs won't work between properties, two reasons

They will be on different phases
They won't work through a meter.

I have successfully used a wireless Belkin gaming adapter to link my Foxsat HDR to my router, although I now use Homeplugs. However, successful connection with wifi would depend on distance to next door's router, wall thickness. number of walls, etc. Best if you could borrow one from someone to try it first.

I can get a strong signal for my xbox live and computer... so signal will be no problem

is it easy to set up a USB wireless then? is it a plus and play? or does it have to be via the ethernet connection?

It must be a very understanding neighbour to let you use his connection for xbox live, computer and now the foxsat!!!!

Belkin gaming adapter connects to ethernet port on HDR and communicates via wifi to router, no USB required unless of course you use it as a power source for the Belkin. (Not sure about current limitations on HDR USB port though so I used mains adapter when I had one). I seem to recall that the network had to be configured first via hard wired ethernet connection to PC before I could use it wirelessly.

This is generally, but not always, true. In cases where two premises are on the same phase the signal can, and does on occasion, travel between the properties. In the case of apartment blocks the signal will work between premises on many occasions.

This is not an issue from a data security perspective, once the in-built encryption is activated.

There is a record online somewhere, or at least there used to be, relating to extensive tests carried out by the homeplug alliance.
