We have a cat who is coming up to two years old. She just simply wont lie on you, or anything like that. She goes outside most of the time, but of an evening or something, I'd love her to come and lie on or next to me. If you try, she just gets up and buggers off.

I know that's her personality, but could she grow into being more of a lap cat, or is that what she'll be like from now on?

She might melow in her old age. I love lap cats i have a couple one is guinness he is the daftess one i have though. I give him permission to come up. I then say too him if you lay down i will stroke you he does. He then paddles on my arms and washes me. He has always done this. The trouble is he weighs around 10kgs so after a while he squashes me. I used to have a cat called simon that got realy jealous of this and he used to push him off but sometimes i had both. Together they weighed ove 2 stones. I didnt care and still dont if they want too sit on my knee or next too me they can. I am only answering this because i have 4 of my cats sitting on my settee and they are quiet and asleep i hate waking them up. What sort of cat is your cat is she a tortie at all

Waffle does this to me, sits on my lap and licks me till the skins worn off (not litteral). He's 8 months old. Problem is, he ONLY does this about 5mins before I'm about to go to bed. It's like he knows, and want's to make things awkward for me and make me feel bad for turfing him off me so I can get up.

The rest of the time he's either lounging on the back of the sofa (all spread eagled and floppy), curled up on top of the router or snoozing on top of the cable box (won't be long before he won't fit there any more!). If he's not doing one of those things he's waffling about in the kitchen dunking his toys in his food or water.

She's a completely black cat. Can't remember her breed or anything.

Guinness is completly black too. Mine love fleeces either a blanket or a jumper that you might have worn. I have one that loves fluffly dressing gowns. He has been neutered but he used to like paddling on mine and then humping it. I havent got it anymore though as my vera gave birth on it so i threw it away. I dont go out much and they are so used to us all the time maybe its because we are very rarely away from them. Guinness doesnt do it for anyone else either just me. He loves sitting on his back and me cuddling him like a baby as well.

When I got my rescued cats Ted and Jess, Ted was a lapcat straight away but Jess NO, it took her 6yrs before she first sat on my lap after that first time she was always on my lap.Just give it time could take a few years....

My first cat Mogs wouldnt stand on me or walk over me never mind sit on me. My current cat Amber who is a tortie has spent a few hours this afternoon snuggled up under my arm. Thats a new position normally she lies down my leg with her head on my knee. That said she usually becomes a cuddle kitten when its cold......great for her to use me as a warm cushion but not good for me as I cant move to put the heating on lol

My black and white cat is a lapcat and is very affectionate and does the kneading stuff if I'm wearing my fluffy dressing gown. My tabby cat will sit on my lap but only if noone is around to witness the fact he is a bit of a softie at heart. They are both two and a half.
