you did the right thing as your dog was in pain. just try and understand that it happens to all of us.

I love my animals and will be heartbroken when they die. As I care for them more than some people. That may sound horrible but it's the thruth.

some people are like, "well it's just a cat or a dog..."

that is not true. people can have a real caring relationship with animals.

I was in tears when my granny's cat had to be put to sleep.
But it's better than needless suffering.

Sorry I hope you lot don't mind me adding about my loss.

My dog was diagnosed with cancer in September time at 5 years old. She was such a lovely dog.
She got progressivly worse and her breathing became more difficult, but there were also days where she would act like a puppy again!
Sadly, she became really ill on friday night so we had her put to sleep on Saturday, the hardest thing I've had to do, couldn't stop crying when I had to say bye to her

He was my first dog and I truly thought my heart would break at the time. Big hugs to you and your family, and RIP Kerry.”

Thank you for that. Now I have heard of somebody else whose dog had the same problems helps.

My wife and I have just been sitting (Over coffee) going through the whys and wherefores of what happened .Its the not knowing that we are beating ourselves up about.

Thanks everybody for your comments. It helps to know others understand The trauma us pet owners go through.

Kerry was a family member.

Many thanks for your kind words.
As my whole life revolved round mt pet and rightly so there are afew things that I have put on hold like visiting relatives in Australia. However maybe whe I return I will look at your suggestion and I will see.

Also just wanted to say sorry for your loss. It's unbearable, eh but I think of it as the price I have to pay for all the love and fun they have brought me. Gradually the memory of those last hours fades and the happy memories take their place. xxx

My big man is being put to sleep tomorrow after a year of dealing with fits and trying everything to aid him, we are all pretty sure he had a brain tumour and this last week he has been pacing and unsettled urinating in the house and is generally unhappy with his lot in life

Oh dear that is so sad. We suspect similar with our departed Kerry. A week later and we still feel as bad. Having lost dogs before it can take a long time to get over. It is losing a family member after all.

Not much I can say except he is going to be at Peace. You are doing what is best for him.

Thinking of you.

Guys I know from experience as do so many of us I'm sure, it's so sad when you lose a loved pet. Our consolation is the love we gave them and they gave us. And of course we never forget them and they never really leave us as they always remain in our hearts.

Will be thinking of you and your big man.

Been through this with our last staffie who had a brain tumour. Came on very suddenly and the vet said our only option was really to put him to sleep. It is so, so tough. But you are doing the best thing you can, by him.
