I'm with Tesco mobile on a payg iphone with the unlimited data for 12 months. Shortly coming to the end of the 12 months so I'll be looking round for a sim only offer but in the meantime is there anyway of checking my data usage?

I've a Tesco sim-only contract and on the customer portal I can check my call, SMS and data usage, perhaps you can also do so with PAYG?

I have a £17.50 sim only 30day contract with 1gb data capped at £50, I now have a bill for £598.00 as customer care informs me their system takes 8 hours to update the data so they were unable to enforce the cap. They have offered me a 50% charge cut so I now owe £296 a long way from the £50 cap, why have a cap if it takes 8 hours for their system to catch up. Ofcom say that tesco’s can charge what they like as there is no regulation to stop them. Tesco’s web site T&C does not tell you that the cap takes 8 hours to come into force. Customers BEWARE !

It is all one massive scam.

t-mobile are non scammers so get an award for this,
The rest are pseudo crooks.

Offer them £50 and to stay!
With PAYG always instant, they have the ability to do same with contract so obviously all are scamming apart from t-mobile.

Ofcom are going to put in a maximum roaming charge when abroad I read the other day due to the amount of people not realising roaming charges or where they didn't turn data off or forgot.

They should simply turn it off when the limit is reached, as for it taking 24 hours to update that isn't your fault as a customer, that's their old fashioned systems. I see my data allowance updated within 5-10 minutes on my network and there's no reason why O2 or Tesco's systems are so antiquated. I would say they are to blame for you going over as their systems are always too far behind.

Personally I would sue them in the small claims court, as they can't charge you for a failure in their systems being a day behind and you using the allowance that was still showing on your account.

I would pay under protest and have them mark that you paid under protest and then take them to small claims court. It's unreasonable for them to charge you when they didn't notify you that you were over allowance, either by text or on your account.

This is appalling. I'm on Orange, if I go over my 750mb data limit I'm charged roughly £5 per 500mb I use after that.

That is bad, on Orange I get charged £1 a day for unlimited use over my 1GB allowance. I find it silly my contract is £36 a month with 1GB data yet the £1 overage is unlimited :/

However every day you go over that's £1. Potential for an extra £31/mo there.

Well yeah there is that but I rarely go over my allowance, I try and manage it well and if I do go over its only 1 or 2 days

I'm sure that unlimited use for £1 overage would be subject to a "fair use" limit too - 25MB according to this page on the Orange website so while it does look odd, it's not that silly I suppose.
