Phone rings just once and connects !!!!!
Hi I am having a problem with my phone. It rings just once. It is definately not the phones as I have disconnected them all and it does the same. If you dial my number it rings once then crackles but you are connected even if you dont pick up the phone. You can make calls no problem. As usual after lengthy oveseas calls they say the line is fine and want to charge me a fortune to come out. Can anyone out there help me please.
Thanks |

Is the phone on an extension or plugged direct into the master socket? If on an extension try it on the master socket.
Also if you have one of the NTE5 type master sockets try removing the bottom half of the socket to reveal the test socket on the bit left screwed to the wall. Plug in there and try again. The test socket is connected directly to the incoming line and removing the faceplate isolates any internal wiring you have. This means that if you have any problems on the test socket it is more likely to be a line fault than your wiring. Most of the time you should not be charged for line faults. Unless you have damaged the wiring somehow. If you call the support people back tell them you have done all this and insist they send someone out to investigate. They may be reluctant to call out Openreach to fix the fault as Openreach will bill them but they won't pass a line fault charge on to you. |

We had this exact same fault once. BT Openreach came out, and he said the problem is that a phone line has a number of wires connecting. This fault occurs when there is a break in one of the wires. He fixed a new line from our house back to the main cabinet in the street.

Rectified loop (partial short circuit) fault. Call your comms provider.
