just finished watching the first episode of American Idol. This was the first time we got to witness the new judges at work. I have to say I think that both new judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, show some promise. What did you guys think of the new American Idol Judges? Vote http://whosright.com/poll/american-idol-do-you-like-the-new-judges

Yep - I think they are really good.

JLo seems like a genuinely nice person and Steven Tyler is just awesome.

To be honest, there is no need for Randy

You "have to say I think that both new judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, show some promise".. they must be soooo relieved you think so. Tyler and Lopez are in, get over it, it's an American show, they don't give a rats ass what foreigners think.

Tyler is fun
Jennifer seems really nice.

It really doesn't matter who the judges are though in reality as I doubt they have much say in who goes through (I would guess they have to put through about 20 they are told to and then have a decision on the other 20 or so).

I found it a much more relaxing show to watch without Simon there.

Yeah I really like both Steven and Jennifer, and for some reason I much prefer Randy this season.

I don't really miss Simon at all, but I do wish Kara was still there.

Certainly fewer egos flying around!

Randy seems to be trying to be more serious this season. Tyler is filling the old Randy role and Lopez is filling the old Paula role, so that leaves Randy to be Simon. He's not as mean as Simon, but he's willing to be the voice of reason if the other two feel bad about telling someone no. He's toned down his usual catchphrases and mannerisms now that Tyler is bringing the humor.

It's so much better without Simon. Half of the time with Simon I never actually believed he was being sincere - rather he was just saying things for effect to ensure that the show always revolved around him. These three have a real rapport and you really get the feeling that they enjoy the good performances. I like it when they all get involved with the singing - I know it is more of an American thing to do and not very British, but Simon's presence made it much less relaxed and I feel the show has gained a great deal from his leaving.

Well thank the Lord for that then, it's an AMERICAN show, they probably don't give a toss what Brits think and rightly so, I don't give a toss what Americans think about British shows.

I think it is amazing how quickly they have gelled and you kind of forget the old panel. I never really took to Kara and Ellen just didn't work out, but Steve, JLo and Randy have worked and I feel comfortable watching them. May be more different once we get down to the real business though.

I like the judges so much more this year with out Simon, we dont see any of them actting the big I am like Simon did. So we get a nice balanced set of judges. just wish Kara was still there as well.

Well I really enjoyed the new line up, it was much more fun to watch as it should be at this stage.

Talent seems to be thin on the ground at the moment with most just being average at best. The only one I can remember is Caleb.

I like them, Jennifer especially although I do miss Kara a bit. But I think they have helped bring a bit more fun back to AI.

Feel very much the same, really enjoying Tyler on the show - he's a complete hoot, JLo fits in nicely and Randy isn't anywhere near as annoying. I even liked three acts off the second show

Totally agree - It's more enjoyable to watch without Simon. J lo seems like a real sweetheart and Steven Tyler is a God

I liked both Jennifer Lopez & Steve Tyler, I much prefer American Idol to our X Factor, there was more talent on the first couple shows, than in this years X Factor.

Yes, I love them!

Simon will be hard to replace, but I think these two are doing a great job and I’m very optimistic about the show now.

I just wish Steven had a bit more of what Simon had: the sense that it was really important to him and he took it really seriously, like it was his own show. At the moment, Steven kinda clowns around a bit and I don’t get the feeling that he really cares that much at the end of the day. That’s the only thing I would change about him though. He’s funny, intelligent, charismatic, and often blunt. So overall a great judge.

J-Lo is lovely and really sweet. Reminds me a lot of Paula.

And I LOVE that there are only 3 judges again!

I was pleasantly surprised. I always thought Randy could build up his role out of the shadow of SC and first signs are promising - you can always rely on Randy to tell it as is.

J-Lo comes over as supportive and nice as you always hoped she'd be, could do without all the "Jennifer I've *sob* loved you since I was *sob* 7" wannabes

Biggest pleasant surprise is Tyler, funny, enthusiastic, not unafraid to take the p out of himself, he has all the attributes for a great judge

I was really impressed - Randy cut down on his "pitchy dawg"-isms, J-Lo is just gorgeous (i'm not even a fan), and Steven Tyler was hysterical - I'm still laughing at his spectacularly inappropriate observation that that 16 year-old was showing "just the right amount of leg!"

They really seem to be music fans (which never came across with Cowell) and to enjoy being there... I still don't think we'll know for sure how this season is going to go until boot camp & the live shows, but this was a great start...

Really like them. As Threecheeses said it feels a lot more relaxed. It has got so much better since Simon left. Even my husband who always hated AI enjoyed last week's editions.
