Thinking of buying this player:

http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/lg-bd57...369&xtor=AL-63

It has built in wifi with LG Netcast, but I can't figure out if that includes iPlayer or not. On LG's website it lists iPlayer:

http://www.lg.com/uk/netcast/index.jsp

...but does that mean all LG players have iPlayer or just certain ones?

I think LG, like Samsung have only rolled out the iPlayer option to their TVs and not the Blu Ray players - at least that's what the information on the web suggests.

Panasonic seem to be only putting i-Player on their Freesat enabled TVs.

So it looks like if you want a Blu Ray player with i-Player functionality you're going to have to go for a Sony - probably a BDPS370.

It's frustrating as I've thought about buying a BD, but am not keen on Sony kit - as I've always found it to be on the pricey side for average performance and with UIs which I've never got on with.

Seriously.. buy this (bear in mind a wireless dongle is 60-70 quid unless you can plug it into your router..)

Oh, that's disappointing.

I saw the Sony one you mentioned, but that's more expensive and doesn't have built in wifi - which is a pain since my router and player won't be in the same room.

[Edit: my mistake, it isn't more expensive unless I get the dongle too... thanks both. I'll mull it over.]

Which since it will only accept the 'Sony' dongle (a cheaper, non Sony branded one won't work) adds weight to my comment about the relative cost of Sony's products.

I suspect if they found a way to make you only use Sony branded batteries in their remote controls they'd have done it (which would be double the price of a Duracell alternative).

Its worth it.. you get iplayer, youtube, lovefilm (plus a bunch of other crap you will never watch) and next month (apparently) channel 4 on demand and ITV player

The Sony 570 has the wifi built-in and is also 3d compatible. £160 though.

hello all
i bought the LG BD570 bluray player today£129 +5 Bluerays from Currys and can confirm it does have the BBC iplayer after you do a software update, and it seems a lot better than the one i have on my Humax HDR
the picture quality is a lot clearer, and the built in Wifi was a doddle to set up
Chloe..

Cool, I just ordered one online. The 5 blurays are a bonus... although Nanny McPhee will probably go straight on eBay

Just an update... got the LG player yesterday, and as Chloe says, the wifi setup was very simple, the software update took about half an hour, and the streaming quality of iPlayer is fantastic. Very happy with it.
