Ive got this and would totally recommend it. Ive not found a file yet it wont play. the quality of playback is brilliant (i have sony bravia 40") andconnected with HDMI cable is even better.

well worth buying!

I was planning to get one but my only worry is the lack of support from WD, will they just leave this to rot now that the Live hub is out?

Not been impressed with the firmware updates for WD Mybook so far.

In the end I have decided to order a boxee box instead.

Hi

I have had one of these about nine months and think it's great. Like kirsty4eva7 above I haven't found anything it cannot play.

As for support there have been regular firmware updates (last one a couple of weeks ago).

You may also want to look at the forum http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php Lots of help and views on there.

IIRC it won't play the blu-ray menus as they are java based. You'll need a dune for that. But it may play the main movie. Hopefully someone will have tried it.

All of the HD .iso are ripped without menus, so its just the main film

I have had time to copy a dvd to an iso and yes, you appear to have found the first thing it can't play. I'm going to upgrade the firmware tonight and try again.

I've tried my wdtv and there are no menus - you just get the main movie from a dvd iso. I haven't got a blu-ray rip to try but for blu-ray you need to be able to run java and these little streamers haven't got that ability. The dune has but that's expensive.

If you use ToNMT (to network media tank) you get a ts (or is it a m2ts) file of the main movie that works fine.

Google it and you'll know as much as me! Also google makemkv or check it out at avforums.com under media streamers - this may be easier.

why not just rip the film only to DIVX ? only takes up arond 800mb and games consoles will play it just fine.

.ISO is one huge file

for dvds divx is fine, but for blu-rays you may as well try to keep all the detail or there's no point. makemkv and ToNMT will let you choose which audio tracks you want so the file will be a bit reduced.

Interesting stuff. I must have another go with ISOs as my first effort locked up. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong (which is highly likely).
