Anyone on here old enough to remember Keith Emerson in The Nice and Emerson, Lake and Palmer?

Oh yes! Wembey 1973 (or was it 71 or 72?): 1973 as it was the Brain Salad Surgery tour. About the time ELP started to lose the plot.

Still try to catch Carl Palmer when he is in town as he is far and away the best, most precise rock drummer your will ever have the privilege to hear.

It was 1974, when i saw them at Wembley, they had experimental quad sound, with a speaker in each corner.
I always remember it was 1974 because it was the same night Abba won Eurovision.

Can't have been later than 73 as I went down with a couple of mates while still in the 6th form. Was up at uni in the Autumn.

Edit: Nope, must have been 74, I am a year out in my education.

2nd row at Wembley in 1974 on the BSS tour. amazing. then at RAH in 92. let's hope they tour again now that Keith and Greg are apparently speaking to each other.

I love that video - especially for the intro

"Their first ever debut performance together"

Can you have more than one debut performance?

More than apparently speaking to each other. Prior to High Voltage they did a tour of America as Emerson and Lake.

During an interview with Danny Baker, they said Carl Plamer couldn't do it because he had commitments with Asia.

I always thought the first album was a bit weak, it sounds like what it is - very rushed.

However Tarkus, Triology and Brain Salad Surgery are Prog. Rock classics, and Pictures is one of the greatest live albums ever.

They went off the boil after that and Love Beach is just downright embarassing.

But I still love them.

I am certainly old enough

I was never a great fan of ELP but I did like The Nice - especially America:

Hard to believe this is 43 years old!

And I just found this gem - Keith Emerson playing Bach backwards (bloody bonkers)

I was lucky enough to hang around with a much older crowd who took me with them when they went to the IOW in 1970 & Glastonbury in 1971 (plus many other gigs)

Was the RAH in 92? Wow, I was there and Keith Emerson ran from the stage right to where I was sitting in the stalls--he's always been a little bonkers

I've been a fan of ELP for 36yrs and I still love their 'Welcome Back My Friends' live album from 1974.

I heard that Keith was recuperating from major surgery last year so I hope his recovery is going well

That video of America is brilliant, such a great performance, with the knives and slapping the keyboard and generally very cool...easily my favourite piece of instrumental music.
