For me Series 2 will always be the best - Clare and Andrei are my favourtie couple ever, combined with 2 spin off shows and a good line up

So far, this series isnt too bad but I feel like im a lot less involved than last year. I usually get really excited and track the gossip and everything but this year Im just not feeling it.

I'm glad I found this thread: I'm new to DoI and wondered if it was always this crap.

I would suggest watching clips of previous series if you can, theres been some real talent the past few series, this one has just been a bit rubbish!

Series 2 and 3 are probably the best ones to watch, you can most likely get the DVDs cheap from Amazon

I'm enjoying it..but the enjoyment rapidly fades if one contestant is no much better than everyone else...step forward Sam. It then become a foregone conclusion...then I only watch to see if anyone gets dropped on the ice during a routine

My favourite series was when Daniel Wiston partnered ex corrie actress Gaynor Faye. Now that was a great series.
Some of them in this years DOI I don't know who they are. Its hard to take this year when that idiot Kerry Katona is in it though. I could do with shows like this but I feel its a platform for some that were celebs in the past and being in this is to help a flagging career.

I've enjoyed every DOI show I've seen!

This is going to be one of the BEST ever. 5 talented skaters; more than in most series.

Cant stand it. I didnt watch last week as I find it so dull and boring.

Some of us love the show for the Pros as well as the Stars.....so why take out so many of our favourite Pros?

The stars are far from shining.......come on.....scrapping the barrel somewhat.

The judges have changed and have no credability........Emma Bunten, are they joking??? Bring back the other two at least.

The new rink has taken away the intimate, family feel that the show used to have............and whoever is in charge of picking the music needs sacking. Some of the songs are a complete joke.

Costumes and lighting are really bad too. Skaters wearing pink should not be skating on a rink bathed in pink lights......it means we cant see them well.

Awful show now and it used to be my favourite. Such a shame. I dont even know who was voted out last week.

I think this is the poorest year as far as I am concerned. Too many familiar pros gone in one go (no problem with changing some, but too many at once so too many unfamiliar faces), too many so-called celebs I have never heard of, or who have no claim to celebrity in their own right at all and those I had heard of going first. The ridiculous double elimination two weeks running. I also do not like the reduced judging panel, the marking out of 10, the judges stuck out of sight down one end of the arena (how can they judge properly from there anyway?). The warmth has been lost with the audience out of view and too far away from the rink. The choreography is now samey and bland as if Chris has run out of ideas,so the emphasis is placed on "big lifts" where I would rather see the "celebs" skate, the music choice is poor (admittedly to my taste), maybe again they are running out of possibilities. And as for the interminable advert breaks and fillers I think they for me are a major problem as are the hideous costumes. Fortumately I have sky+ so can ff through a lot of the show and just watch the contestants on the ice.

New pros are good to watch too.

I also prefer the new judging panel, it's quite clear what everyone is looking for, Robin judges the skating, Jason the dancing, Emma the performance, and they all have the experience to judge that.”

Yes I am enjoying it though I feel Emma is not quite up to it yet. I'll give her chance.

I think the lack of activity on this forum indicates that the current series has yet to excite much excitement.

I think they made a mistake cutting the judges down to three. I never think three is enough - even on Britain's Got Talent. They should have kept Karen on as a judge if they didn't want Nicky doing it anymore.

I`m enjoying the skating this year - I detest the judges panel with JG and EB on it

JG would be fine if it wasnt for his petty childish analogies

Why not axe it then, otherwise it will end up like Big Brother, which should have been axed three series earlier than it was? I'm sure few people would really care.

but the fact is this series has been doing better than the last couple of series in viewers figures so therefor people are actually still into dancing on ice.

Yes and if you showed a live execution on TV a lot of people would watch it, doesn't make it good television though.

Probably the most competitve ever and the mix isn't much different than most years. They just need another recognisabe soap star from a bigger soap and they seem to have run out of impressive sportsmen and male pop singers - though there may be more sportsmen available post olympics

One problem is the first shows may have diluted the impact as we spent two weeks getting to know people who then vanished before the competition started. We lost them and our attention was spread over 16 and not 12. We also lost probably three of the female characters who would have added most story to the show which was a complete waste and means we amy miss who went more than we like who stayed.. They would have done better starting with 12 and using the other 4 next year.

Another is the shortness of the routines and the lack of new music or ideas apart from with Vanilla who is able to innovate and Sam who can open up new options - that may be inevitable with so may early on, but we need longer and better routines later.

A third may be Sam. Its not clear that putting someone that good in produces a race or a walkover - with Ray its a walkover, with Chris its a race. This time though there are three girls in the race, and splitting the vote, and they may have put too many weak skaters with fanbases in for them actually to make the final lengths.

Can only judge from what I have seen so far

What were they thinking putting Bunton on the panel, when as usual she has no idea what she is talking about

This twist tomorrow will without a doubt cause a lot of ructions no matter how much they try to make it look like its a good idea

And less said about the qualifying rounds the better, nearly lost some big hitters before the main shows even kicked off

And it's a bit unsettling even at this early stage that Sam is outscoring everybody by 5 or 6 points already

Those outside of the Samiana fanbase can only hope he will peak early and fall away but with the added factor of the fauxmance with his partner

It does look pretty ominous it's going to be another one horse race unless someone can pull something special out of the hat

Like some people, I am feeling a bit zoned out from this series at the moment as it feels like there is some vital ingredient missing

Sam may be further ahead but he's got stronger competition than Ray - because the top girls this series are a better size to do the more difficult work. There's also a bit more chance that there will be a proper competition. Jeff won't be another Donal, Denise won't be another Coleen and there's no Todd, so they may not keep the real competion away from the final. The final format may also not work that well for Sam - he's going to look like a flying telgraph pole and big, and extravagant moves may not be whats required for Bolero??

Jeff may not be another Donal but I think Johnson could be. He was the only one of the mid-bottom table skaters to show a noticeable improvement last week and IMO should have been above Kerry on the leaderboard.

That was baffling last week

Katona did less skating than most last week and she still managed to finish above some who did a lot more skating than she did

And the point about shorter routines is a valid one as they do seem to be over before they have hardly began

ITV would do well to remember If it aint broke - don't fix it!”

Excellent post ...I agree with all points. Looking at the schedule for tonight, for example... the main show is on for two solid hours.... and then back after the Africa thingy for another thirty five minutes !!!! That is WAYYYYYYY too long in my opinion.

The loss of Craig and Nadia in particular was hard... Nadia would have been a great one to watch over the weeks.

The panel is a joke.........consising of one skater !!! Moving Karen to that completely ridiculous position of sitting pretty on a chair looking exasperated every five minutes at what Jason is saying is a total farce.

The routines are most definitely shorter too....they seem to be barely getting into their stride and its over... but perhaps thats because of the amount of couples at the moment and limited time. The routines may well lengthen as the weeks go by and less people are there.

It peaked for me with the marvellous Suzanne/Chris final.....now THAT was a real competition to the bitter end, fantastic stuff !!! With both Ray and Hayley..... their victories were pretty much anti climaxes as they had virtually no competition.

The twist this week is ridiculous. Cue multiple " Oh I can't do it.... its so hard".....tears, wailing .... Phil looking stern saying "I need a name now".......GAWD HELP US !!!
